University Of Limerick Clubs & Societies Lotto

University of Limerick Reqruitment Drive
Welcome to the official fundraising Lotto website of the University Of Limerick's Clubs & Societies.
The purpose of this initiative is to make life easier on those student clubs & societies committee’s who by necessity have to fundraise to allow a full compliment of planned activities take place in a given year. In the Students Union we do offer annual budgets for clubs & societies (which are processed throughout the summer) and we also have a contingency fund for those not in receipt of a budget to support their activities whether they be brand new clubs or societies or “re-starts”, all of whom have failed to qualify for the annual budget- BUT by necessity as we only receive approximately 50% of the funding actually required to fully support our 60 or so Clubs & Societies from the University vis-à-vis capitation, the “budget” for clubs and societies is more accurately a bridging loan between what the club or society can raise in new money themselves in all their various forms of fundraising and what we have to distribute in “budgets”.

To be fair though for many that 50% target is simply too high and unrealistic despite the best plans to run trips or purchase new equipment, no matter how well thought out, or of a developmental benefit to the Club or Society, many  are simply cancelled or seriously curtailed when fundraising falls short. This has the effect of de-motivating the voluntary student committee’s and its members and by extension leads to reduced participation. Of course there is a limit to the time on these extra curricular activities as there is also the important matter of securing the degree, masters or postgraduate qualifications.
Personally I concur with the view that if it was all a 100% paid for that too would be a negative factor, as human nature tells us that people do not appreciate something that is entirely free. Also part of what makes good Clubs & Societies is the ability of the committee to be innovative and plan their race nights, bag-packing, sell lotto tickets and for the members to mobilise behind the initiative. The lotto is a plan to try and make the overall burden of fundraising a little easier and giving the committee more time to spend on their activities and their members and not to be overly consumed with the fundraising targets.

As the lotto is primarily dependent on each individual making an individual commitment to play the lotto whether that is a parent, relative, friend, other students, staff of UL or Alumni’s it has the potential with YOUR support to be a fabulous financial support that does not require individual student committee’s burning the mid-night oil on where to raise the next Euro. You play the lotto and I will channel the monies direct to the Club or Society on a semester basis, or if it was hugely successful that could be done every 2 or 3 draws.

You are now only two clicks away from providing valuable support click to the right, and you will see how easy it is.
Of course someone will eventually win and you may be that winner of a very useful jackpot that could put a smile on anyone’s face in these difficult times. We also hope that we can all work together to promote this lotto and help get back in touch with people from all over Ireland and the world that attended the University Of Limerick and found lasting memories from that time and who no doubt have maintained many UL friendships long after their graduations. (See the “Tell Friends” function on the top of this homepage.)

To support the UL Clubs & Societies, select any four numbers from 1 to 20. If anybody matches the four numbers selected on the night he/she wins/shares the Jackpot.  If there is no winner of the overall jackpot there will be 4 lucky dip prizes of €25 each.  Tickets cost €2 each and the on-line options offers extra value through the bonus of free tickets too, based on the number of draws you choose to support. Draws are run fortnightly during term time in the Main Canteen in the University and winners of the lucky dip will be contacted by me or my colleague Liz.Gabbett@ul.ie  for details on how they would like to collect their winnings in person or via the post.

Your continued support is much appreciated and we wish you good luck in future draws. Should you require any more information on Clubs & Societies please check out www.clubsandsocs.ul.ie or you can mail me directly if you so wish
Best of Luck,

Clubs & Societies Jackpot to Stay at €8000 and comes to end in March 2012
The Clubs & Societies of the University of Limerick have recently decided to withdraw its support from the Clubs & Societies Lotto as a means of a collective fundraiser. At a meeting of its Clubs & Societies Council on the 7th of February a majority vote of its members have decided to wind the lotto down over the semester due to an overall decline in support for this means of a collective fundraiser. As such the Jackpot has been capped at the upper limit of €8000.
