Kilmainhamwood Junior A’s took on the Junior D’s in a charity match on Saturday 13th July at 7pm for the Matthew Cunningham cup. The “Galácticos” lead by the mercurial Tommy “The Tommy” Owens boasted a fine ensemble of former greats … but the old legs found the going tough and were 10 points in arrears with 10 minutes to go. As it was a charity match The “Galácticos” emptied their bench and played the remainder of the match with 18 or 19 or even 20 players. With time well and truly up the referee awarded Captain Tommy a dubious penalty and his theatrical dive following an innocuous tackle.
This game proved that there is plenty of life in the former stars of this club and it should be all hands to the pump to try and rescue our disastrous season and help us stay in JFCA … rather than taunted us at how rubbish we are … we know we are rubbish and it was disappointing to be mocked by what are supposed to be our own fans when we are trying our best.
Afterwards there was a Table Quiz in Keogan’s and all proceeded was donated to the Ryan Carolan fund. Thanks to everyone who supported this worthy cause.
