The Kilmainhamwood GFC St. Patrick's Day International Virtual Gathering on Saturday 16th March 2013 at 9pm in Keogan's lounge was a resounding success

The first call of the night was an International Skype call to Jenny Smith in London, England. Jenny is one of our best online supporters playing the lotto on a regular basis. Jenny had the Irish flag in the background and donned the green, white & gold jersey, scarf and aliens ears! Jenny was delighted to join in our virtual gathering and wished us the best for the night ahead and we thanked her for her continuing support. At the end of the call Jenny was joined by her noisy friends & family and we signed-off with a great cheer. Thanks Jenny.

The next International Skype call was to Rome, Italy were IFC, SFC, Feis Cup medal winner, and long-standing attacking half-back / midfielder Ken Russell joined us fresh from the papal conclave. Ken was joined by his Welsh cousin Brendan Owen who was full  of the joys of life after Wales captured the RBS 6 Nations championship following a barn-storming demolition of England. Brendan played rugby all his life and is no stranger to the physical side of the game. It may have been the distance involved or the amount of alcohol consumed, but Brendan called out a few of the Kilmainhamwood men (Harry Corbally & Michael Clarke) to come forward for a virtual scrum … this was not pretty, but great fun. Ken was also joined on the call by his Spanish girlfriend Pilar .. so this truly was an International gathering on its own. Thanks Ken.

For the third call of the night was hooked up with musician, U12 corner-back and all-round good-guy Allen Gogarty in New York. Allen was playing a gig in the Tir Na nĂ“g pub on 5 Penn Plaza 8th Ave and he informed the crowd assembled there that a live feed had just been initiated to Keogan’s in Kilmainhamwood, Ireland. Allen proceeded to give a rousing rendition of “Galway Girl” which was roundly applauded on both side of the Atlantic. Allen took a break from the singing and was  able to kind a quite spot in Tir Na nĂ“g pub and chatted to us. Allen’s mother & father were on-hands and were delighted to see their beautiful son. Thanks Allen.

The penultimate call of the night was to Brisbane, Australia where Michelle Farrelly, Paddy Carolan and Seán Farrelly joined us after a hard night of partying. Also taking part in this International Skype call was Sheila the inflatable sheep. Unfortunately Andy Farrelly was unable to get out of the bed to join us and it was suggested that Sheila the sheep was on the call in his stead … others came up with other interpretations as to the relationship between Andy and Sheila the sheep but as this is a family show, they will not be broadcast. Kellie McCormack & Julie McCormack joined the call and a load of sense was had ! Paddy C celebrated his 30th birthday recently and the Keogan’s crowd let rip with an out-of-tune rendition of Happy Birthday. Michelle then told us that her ladies team had taken part in the Brisbane parade and after seeing the photos on Facebook they were invited over to play the Kilmainhamwood first team … still waiting on that offer to be accepted. Seán informed us that he had recently got engaged and everyone commiserated … no, congratulated him. Michelle, Paddy & Seán signed-off telling us that they were preparing a BBQ for breakfast in 25C, we weren’t a bit jealous. Thanks Michelle, Paddy & Seán (and Sheila) and not Andy.

The last International Skype call of the night saw us hook up with Paul Farrelly in Perth, Australia where his mother & father, Margaret & Philip (assistant to the assistant Treasurer) had landed a few days earlier. Paul & Philip had stayed up most of the night watching the RBS 6 Nations rugby and drinking beer but in fairness to them, they looked good. Margaret joined the call to add some Sophie-Loren-esk  glamour to the occasion. Percy McKeever then asked Philip where the money collected at the recent match was and it was suggested through rumbling in the crowd that the money was used to fly to Australia … these allegations have not been proven. Thanks Paul, Philip & Margaret.

At the end Kilmainhamwood GFC chairman Jim Condra thanked Shane Russell for organising and running the event. Shane Russell went home to bed because he was knackered !

regards,

Shane Russell & the lotto committee
