Kilmainhamwood U10’s overcame St. Michaels 12 scores to 5 in the Farrell Cup final in Drumconrath on Saturday 6th October 2012. Kilmainhamwood Gfc started the brighter and it was a trend that was set to continue as the ‘Wood men dominated this match. Kilmainhamwood early pressure didn’t yield the scores that the good play of Keith Reilly and Sean Bennett deserved but in the fifth minute Man of the Match Jonathan Reilly slotted over the first of his six scores. This was quickly followed by a Jamie Fagan point when he pulled on a rolling ball and slotted her over the bar. Cian Murphy, Killian Plunkett, Odhrán Keogan and Jack Murphy were keeping things tight in defence and providing the launch pad for Kilmainhamwood attack. Killian Russell and Oisin Reilly came into the defence mid way through the first half and seamlessly integrated. At mid-field Brian Cassidy & Jamie Fagan were as industrious as ever helping their defence and supporting the attack with Jamie notching up three points from play & Brian working hard all game. The half-forward line of Keith Reilly and Jonathan Reilly was where this game was won. Man of the Match Jonathan Reilly grabbed 2-2 in the first (goals count as one score) and Keith Reilly chipped in with a superb point as well as handsome contributions from play. The inside line of Seán Bennett and Eoin Rooney ensured that the St.Michael’s rearguard were always on their toes. Rian Stafford was introduced towards the end of the first half and continued his good recent form. At half time Kilmainhamwood were leading seven scores to three.

The second half was a tighter affair with St. Michaels really putting it up to the men from the ‘Wood who started this half with the same team that started the game. Odhrán Keogan and Cian Murphy were very strong in defence well supported by Jack Murphy and Killian Plunkett. Brian Cassidy and Jamie Fagan at midfield needed to work hard to keep on top and Seán Bennett won and converted two frees to keep the scoreboard ticking. Oisin Reilly was re-introduced and played even better than he did during the first half. Just before being substituted Man of the Match Jonathan Reilly sublimed flicked the ball to the back of the net and came off to rapturous applause as the crowd showed their appreciation.

Callum Crosbie was solid in the goals sweeping up any dangerous balls that came over the full-back line. The defence consisted of Cian Murphy, Killian Plunkett, Odhrán Keogan, Jack Murphy, Killian Russell and Oisin Reilly. I lár na páirce bhí Jamie Fagan agus Brian Cassidy an-mhaith ar feadh an lae. And the forwards of Keith Reilly and Jonathan Reilly, Seán Bennett, Eoin Rooney & Rian Stafford proves too strong for the men from Caralonstown. With the game won the management team of Shane Russell and John Bennett unloaded the bench with Eoin Finnegan, Dylan Maguire, Cian Owens and Collin Plunkett all getting a taste of the action.

regards,
Shane Russell & the lotto committee
