The Kilmainhamwood U14’s took on Castletown in the Division 6 final in a sunny Pairc Tailteann on Saturday 26th May. The wind played a significant part in this game with the ‘Wood playing with it in the first half. The first ten minutes was scoreless with some great defending by Bernard Reilly and Ryan Murphy. Paul Carolan and Cathal Bennett were getting through an amount of work at mid-field with the former unlucky with an effort for a score. Castletown got off the mark when a mixed in the defence resulted with the ball nestling in the ‘Wood net. Kilmainhamwood got their first point from a Cathal Bennett free following great work from the industrious  Niall Conlon. Adam Crosbie was next on the scoreboard, then Niall Bennett and two Cathal Bennett frees gave the ‘Wood men a two point lead. Two Castletown goals rocked Kilmainhamwood before Adam Crosbie finished the half with a point to leave K-wood trailing 0-07 to 3-01 at the break.

The wind picked up as the second half got underway and Paul Carolan moved back into defence. Both sides were competing honestly and strongly for every ball and the game ebbed and flowed. Kilmainhamwood were awarded a penalty but unfortunately Cathal Bennett dragged it wide. Castletown tagged on a few points as the game began to run away from the gallant ‘Wood men. Best for the ‘Wood were Bernard Reilly & Ryan Gillespie in defence, Cathal Bennet & Paul Carolan at midfield and Niall Bennett, Niall Conlon & Adam Crosbie in attack.

K-wood : Killian Shields, Jack Gargan, Bernard Reilly, Ryan Gillespie, David Carolan, Cathal Bennett, Paul Carolan, Niall Bennett, Adam Crosbie, Niall Conlon, Declan Reilly. Subs Luke Owens for Killian Shields, Darragh McGreevy for Declan Reilly. Panel : Dean Carolan, Padraig Gilsean, Ryan Reilly

The Kilmainhamwood U12’s are in the semi-final on Wednesday 30th at 7:30pm
