Kilmainhamwood first team took on Skryne in the third game in the JFC A championship in Rathkenny on Monday 16th May at 7:30pm and ran out comfortable winners 1:16 to 0:06.
The first quarter was a tight affair and the ‘Wood lead by 3 pts to 2. That changed following the introduction of veteran sharp shooter Ray Madden who, with his first touch, dispatched an unstoppable shot into the back of the Skryne with the goal keeper beaten all ends up. That inspiration score gave the ‘Wood a much needed boost and Stephen Kiernan, Ray Magee & David Russell tagged on a few points to leave it 1-08 to 0-02 at the break.
The ‘Wood had to face a strong breeze in the second half and Skryne upped the tempo but the defence held firm with all defenders playing their part. Aidan Crosbie was like a magnet in the middle of the field during the second half as the ball was attracted to him on almost every occasion … he played like a man half his age.
Damien Russell made an important save 10 minutes from time and after that the Skryne challenge faded and the ‘Wood ran out comfortable silence.
