Welcome to this week’s club news

ACADEMY: Saturday mornings are Academy mornings in Éire Óg between 11.00 a.m. and midday. On these mornings 4-6 year old boys and girls are introduced to the challenges and delights of both hurling and Gaelic football in a child friendly ambience of encouragement and understanding.

ANGELA'S (not Charlie's!) ANGELS: About 2 years ago a group of mothers and their friends began to gather together on Thursday evenings at 8pm in Éire Óg grounds for a fun exercise session under the leadership of Angela O'Leary. Despite some of them never having had a camán in their hands the ladies decided to make camogie the focus of their training. Numbers grew and competence improved to the point where it was felt that the time had come to measure their ability against an outside opposition and last week they played a team from Kilcoole composed mainly of TY girls. The awakening was rude, the Kilcoolers led them a merry dance! Nevertheless our ladies thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Tá fáilte roimh new members. PEIL NA gCAILÍNÍ: Éire Óg is now fielding teams at u-12, u-14 and u-16 and hopefully will soon be adding a ladies team to its ranks. At the beginning of the year there was some trepidation among the mentors about the club being able to field a team at u-12. Such fears soon proved groundless and the numbers at this level, albeit representing a wide range of abilities, have since swelled to 40.

The u-16s had their 1st outing last week when they were at home to Carnew in the league. Our girls proved to be much superior and one had to have sympathy for the Carnew squad and its mentors who had travelled from the far south of the county. The visitors took their defeat in a good spirit and seemed not to be too downhearted. We wish them all the best in their future games.

U16 HURLING: In the 1st outing of the 2016 season the Éire Óg/Kilcoole combination had an exciting 1 point victory over St Pats (3-10 to 4-06) in Kilcoole. The north Wicklow lads' play was peppered with an early-season rustiness which had them in a precarious position for much of the game. A strong finish carried them over the line. The team's scores came from Shaun Cranley, Joe McDonald, Eoin Dorgan and Glen Dunne.
