There was no winner of the jackpot last weekend when the numbers drawn were 13,31 and 39. Consolation prizes were won by D Hegarty, D Buckley, and M J O Donoghue. Next week’s jackpot will be €2,800 on Monday 25th October. The Castlehaven senior team finished top of their group after they defeated Carbery Rangers last Sunday evening in Leap. The game was always going to be close as both teams had plenty men behind the ball. It was a great win by the team and the supporters were delighted by the huge work ethic shown the players. They now play Valley Rovers in the quarter finals. It was a very competitive match between two fully committed teams. To win championship games you need a bit of luck and on the night Castlehaven didn't get the bounce of the ball. They hit the woodwork 3 times. Both teams started brightly playing attacking football. Clonakilty leading at the 1st half water break by 0-04pts to 0-01pts. Castlehaven were excellent for the next 10 mins scoring a great goal to draw level. Clonakilty finished the half by scoring 3 points to lead at half time by Castlehaven 1-03pts Clonakilty 0-09pts. The second half was a titanic battle with Castlehaven going all-out attack. Castlehaven had plenty possession but were finding it difficult to convert into scores. Both sets of backs were dominating the game. Castlehaven never gave up outscoring Clonakilty by 4pts to 1 pts to draw level on the 31st minute. Castlehaven had Clonakilty penned back but they broke up the field to score a late winner. Castlehaven went down the field looking for an equaliser but just failed in the final attack . The club would like to thank the players and management for the great football they played all the season. We did not the result we wanted in the final but the team have improved hugely this year. Castlehaven defeated the home side in the West Cork final recently so It was always going to be a very close game . The first half was very close with the home side leading at half time by 1pt. Half Time Score Castlehaven 1-05 pts Tadhg MacCarthaigh 0-09pts . Tadhg MacCarthaigh were excellent in the second half kicking some fine scores . The girls may be disappointed by the final result on the night but over the whole year the team played some great football . Banteer were crowned u14 B North Cork Champions last weekend , so Castlehaven knew they would have to be at their best to claim victory. Castlehaven took full advantage of the breeze in the first half and thanks to some impressive teamwork and scoring,led 2 5 to 1 1 at the first waterbreak.The second quarter was more even with the locals scoring 1 1 to match the Haven girls 4 points,,leaving the score 2 9 to 2 2 at half time. Castlehaven defended superbly in the second half, and only conceded 1 1, while on the other end the forwards were unerring in front of the goal. Full Time Castlehaven 4-11pts Banteer 3-03pts .Castlehaven now march on to the County final v winners of Ballinora and Youghal. Congratulations to the players and management on a huge win. Everyone is looking forward to the county final . Junior Ladies Castlehaven and Dohenys played in a top of the table clash last Sunday in Moneyvollahane. Castlehaven proved much stronger on the day and played some lovely running football. The defence was solid and limited the Dohenys scoring chances.
