Time Capsule
On Friday last the 23rd August, Athlone GAA buried their Time Capsule as part of their "Gathering" event. They also handed over the cheque of monies raised from the Time Capsule and the Cycle to South Westmeath Hospice.
The event was attended by a large group of members of the club and community, including our sponsors, Mayor Gabrielle McFadden and Fr Declan Shannon who said a blessing before the capsules were buried.
There was a great response to this project with over 250 families, businesses and organisations taking part, including memorabilia from An Taoiseach Enda Kenny, Minister Leo Varadkir and a personal letter from Liam O'Neill, President of the GAA commending the work of Athlone GAA in this unique venture. The organizers of this project would like to thank all participants and sponsors that got involved to make this historic fundraiser a great success.
A big thank you from everyone in the Club to Seamus & Trisha Mitchell who were the main driving force behind the Time Capsule and who made it such a huge success. We all look forward to The Gathering in 2045!  |
