ACFL Division 4
Athlone 2-11 St Paul’s 1-8
Two second half goals from Richie Greene sealed the win for our Division 4 team against visitors St Paul’s of Clonmellon in this league game that was played in the AIT grounds due to our hosting of several Feile Camogie finals on Sunday morning.. The victory almost certainly guarantees promotion to Division 3 for our juniors and a likely league final against Mullingar Shamrocks in the upcoming weeks.

ACFL Division 6B
Athlone 7-12 Maryland 1-11
A first half goal-scoring blitz, in which they hit the net five times, paved the way for Athlone to overcome the challenge of neighbours Maryland in their Division 6B game played in Páirc Chiaráin on Friday night. This was Athlone’s first on-field win in this league, after being awarded a walkover against Kinnegad the previous weekend, and it was achieved through an excellent all-round performance, exemplified by the fact that seven different goalscorers got on the scoresheet.

U12 Westmeath - Athlone GAA v The Downs
On a sunny June evening our u12 team headed east to Mullingar for a game versus The Downs. Depleted in numbers due to Community Games, holidays and injuries, 14 lads togged out and give it their all in an extremely competitive and sporting game. The sides were tied at half-time at 2-5 apiece, with the Athlone goals coming from Ben Murray and Luke Nicholson. 3 quick goals by the Downs mid-way through the second half seemed to have killed off the game but Athlone rallied and never gave up kicking 8 points in a row to bring the game back within our grasp. Unfortunately it wasn't to be and the lads fell short by 1 point on a score-line of Athlone 2-17 - The Downs 6-6. This was a super performance from a great bunch of players and they should be very proud of themselves.
Team and scorers. Kyle Greene, Cillian McGowan, Cian Dolan, Shane Wheatley (0-2), Josh Baine (0-1), Ian Rushe, Lorcan McCormack (0-1), Kyle Mahon, Darragh Lough, Tiernan Mitchell (0-6), Ben Murray (1-1), Brandon Varszegi (0-1), Luke Nicholson (1-5), Boris Zhang.
Underage Football resumes next Sunday 17th June at 11.30am. New players all ages welcome. Come along to Pairc Chiarain or contact Joe Fallon at 086 8846731
