CAMOGIE

SENIOR A: SARSFIELDS V MULLAGH

Sarsfields are back in the county final after a convincing victory over Mullagh on Sunday in Killimor. Rachel Monaghan, Mulllagh’s only scorer throughout the contest, opened the scoring on the 1st minute with a free. Shannon Corcoran opened their accounts on the 3 rd minute with a point from play. Monaghan slotted over another free on 4th minute but Sarsfields began to kick into gear scoring 1-5 without reply. Points from Orlaith McGrath (2), Kara Donoghue, Caoimhe Kelly and Siobhán McGrath while on the 12th minute McGrath was brought down in the square and awarded a penalty which she scored to give them a 1-6 to 0-2 lead. Monaghan registered another free for Mullagh on the 16th minute. Orlaith McGrath from play and Monaghan through a free swapped scores while Corcoran followed up with 1-1 in quick succession to extend Sarsfields lead. Monaghan tried to weather the storm slotting over another free but Kelly registered Sarsfields third major on the day on the 29th minute to leave them nine points ahead. Monaghan and Siobhán McGrath exchanged frees before half time break as Sarsfields went on 3-9 to 0-6 in front.

Monaghan through a free and Siobhán McGrath from play swapped scores in the opening ten minutes of the second half. Mullagh were awarded a penalty on the 40th minute and Monaghan made no mistake in blasting it into the back of the net. Sarsfields had the goal cancelled out within three minutes through two Orlaith McGrath points and another from Clodagh McGrath. Monaghan and Siobhán McGrath swapped frees again on 44th and 47th minutes. Monaghan added her 9th free of the day to her tally on the 49th minute but it was the reigning county and All Ireland Champions Sarsfields who had the final say on the game with points through Corcoran and substitute Aoibhe Deeley as Sarsfields ran out 3-16 to 1-9 winners on the day.
