Regatta news: We’re now at the most intense period of training for the Champs thanks to our facilities at O’Briensbridge.
The Irish Rowing Championships take place over 3 days at the NRC (National Rowing Centre) in Iniscarra, Co. Cork from July 15-17, 2016.
More information on the Champs and everything else can be found on the Rowing Ireland website www.rowingireland.ie
Urban Run 2016:
We’re delighted to announce the date of this year’s Urban - October 9th. This is the biggest non-rowing event in our calendar and takes a massive effort. We hope you’ll get on board for the 10k run or 5k run/walk this year. It’s a real family day out for many people, and also a serious event for the high end athletes who compete on Munster’s flattest course. Many PB’s (personal best) are recorded which is a bonus.
We’ve secured a great main sponsor to help with running costs (haha!) and are also looking for smaller sponsor contributions to help offset the considerable expense of running such a large event. There will be a general call for volunteers also, who are vital to the success of the run.
There will be an official launch too and we'll let everyone know when it's coming up.
We look forward to a great day, but for now, all eyes are focused on the Champs on the 15th.
Old friends revisited:
We were delighted to welcome Con (Cornelius) Cronin back to St. Michael’s on Mon 27th June last.
Con rowed with St. Michael’s in the bowman in the Maiden VIII Winners in Carlow Regatta 1958. Con had very fond memories of his years in SMRC and wanted to present the club with a gift in appreciation of his time with us.
He presented 2 beautiful Silver Cups to the Pres and Capt on behalf of the Club; Oar Person of the Year and Personality of the Year. Also, 2 smaller cups for this year's recipients to keep. He also donated a framed Henley Programmes with enclosure tickets for 1983 to be displayed on our gallery.
We hope to welcome Con back to SMRC again in the not too distant future. It was an honour to meet him and to hear the many stories of his time as an SMRC member. Thank you Con.
The SMRC lotto is a vital part of our fundraising plans, and in particular for our new slipway project as 100% of the lotto proceeds are ring fenced for this urgent construction. Thanks to everyone who has joined for the first time since the relaunch in January and also to those of you who renewed recently. Every one of you is very welcome.
Thank you all,
SMRC Lotto Committee.
