Junior A Football

Kilteely Dromkeen played Kildimo Pallaskenry on the county Junior A league football final on Sunday evening in Mungret. The lads had a good build up to the game with wins over Pallasgreen in the east final and Cappagh Kilcornan in the semi-final the previous week.

The first half was end to end with both sides attacking at every opportunity. Kildimo Pallaskenry started better and at one stage led by 0-6 to 0-1.  Christy O'Dea registered our first score after eight minutes.  Denis O'Dea found the target with two points and John Connery added another to close the gap. Alan O'Connell then scored his first goal of the game as he slipped the ball under the onrushing keeper after been put through one on one. That goal had the sides level at half time 0-07 to 1-04.

Kilteely Dromkeen made some positional changes at the break and it worked at the start of the second half as John Connery and Brian O'Connell combined to set up Alan O'Connell for his second goal of the game which he dispatched to the corner of the net. Kildimo Pallaskenry responded with a few points to close the gap and the sides were level on four different occasions throughout the second half. Denis O'Dea landed two huge points midway through the second half while Barry O'Donnell and John Connery were both on target with scores from play. With five minutes to play, the sides were level at 2-08 to 0-14 but it would be Kildimo Pallaskenry that would finish the stronger, two pointed frees had them ahead by two late on. Kilteely Dromkeen were pushing for a goal and almost got it when Brian O'Connells effort was saved by the keeper, the follow up somehow eluded everyone and Kildimo Pallaskenry cleared the danger. A late point for Kildimo Pallaskenry saw them lead by three when the final whistle was blown, the final scoreline was 0-17 to 2-08. Credit to both teams for an entertaining game of football and well done to Kildimo Pallaskenry on thier win.

Kilteely Dromkeen now prepare for the first round of the east championship which starts on July 16 at home to Pallasgreen. The lads can be happy with their achievements in the league particularly when you consider the number of squad members missing for each game. The management team have been able to blood a lot of new players and that will stand to the squad as a whole later in the year.

Squad: Gerry Prendergast, David Murphy, Phillip Coffey, Eamonn O'Dea, Danny Holton, Francie Stokes, Cathal Finucane, Denny Ahern, Brian O'Connell, Christy O'Dea, John Connery, Alan O'Connell, Pa O'Mahony, Denis O'Dea, Barry O'Donnell, Timothy O'Keefe, William O'Keefe, Diarmuid Murphy, John O'Connell, Cedric Laffan, Cathal Hayes, Jason Murphy, Derek Greene (inj), Matthew Hanly (inj).

Best Wishes

Best wishes to Sean O'Dea and the Limerick Senior Footballers who take on Antrim this Saturday in round two of the qualifiers. The club would like to wish Kieran McCarthy a speedy recovery from a serious injury sustained in a challenge game last week.
