JUNIOR HURLING CHAMPIONSHIP
Our Junior Hurlers lined out in round 2 of the championship on Sunday night last in Caherconlish against Fedamore. Fresh from their victory over Doon last week the management and players were focused on getting another 2 points from this fixture. The team got off to an early start with points from Darren Connery, Christopher O Dea and Denny Ahern in the early minutes. Our midfield of David Murphy and Diarmuid O Dea were on top and giving in good ball which resulted in more points from Davy O Neill, Darren Murphy and Kieran Mc Carthy. Denny Ahern added further points from frees and a '65 before points from Paudie Ahern and Francy Stokes opened up a big gap on the scoreboard. Darren Murphy hit in a speculative ball which went all the way to the Fedamore net and this seemed to spark Fedamore into life as they responded before half time with 2 points and a goal of their own from a 21 yard free. Kilteely Dromkeen were well on top on the half hour whistle on a score of 1-12 to 1-2.
Our full back line of Shane Smalle, Phillip Coffey and Sean O Dea absorbed a lot more pressure in the second half but Barry O Donnell in goals saw off any potential danger between the posts. Kilteely Dromkeen added points in the second half through Denny Ahern, Kieran McCarthy, Darren Connery, Darren Murphy, Paudie Ahern and Denis O Dea. Gerry Murphy chipped in with a great point on his introduction and substitutes John Ahern, Pauraic Keogh, Eamon O Dea and John O Connell all got on plenty of ball in the closing quarter. This was a good game of Hurling with Fedamore fighting all the way to the final whistle but the lads will be happy with the job done and their attention now focuses on Ahane possibly next Friday night to see who will top the championship table. Training on Wednesday night at 8pm.
