East JAHC Final: Kilteely Dromkeen 0-13 Doon 0-09

Kilteely Dromkeen secured a third east title in four years with a win over A determined Doon team on Satruday evening in Caherconlish. As the scoreline suggests, this was a tight game in the fourth meeting of the two sides this season.

Doon started the better leading 2 points to 0 before Paudie Ahern knocked over his first of 10 scores from placed balls. Kilteely had a slight breeze in the first half and looked to build a lead but Doon defended well and stayed point ahead up until 5 minutes before the break. Davy O'Neill was operating at full forward and scored the point of the game from a very tight angle after rounding his marker. Paudie Ahern pointed a '65 before the break and the lads led at half time 0-7 to 0-6.

Kilteely defended superbly in the second half only conceding 3 points in the 30 minutes. The forwards chipped away at the other end led by captain Francie Stokes who scored two excellent points from play. Midway through the second half, we had opened up a 4 point lead and we held this advantage to the end of the game. Paudie Ahern was on top form on the frees and landed a huge point from inside our own '65 yard line with 10 minutes to play. Doon did put on pressure towards the end in search of a goal but they were denied by Barry O'Donnell in goals on a couple of occasions. Doon did manage to get a goal with the last puck of the game but it was disallowed for a square ball. At the final whistle Kilteely had secured a deserved 4 point victory and move onto the county quarter final stage now. Well done to players and management.

East Minor Football Final

Naomh Brid 1-5 Ahane 4-5

Our minor footballers played Ahane in an entertaining east final on Sunday evening in Murroe. Ahane got off to a great start with 2 early goals which left our lads with a lot of work to do. Naomh Brid dominated the second quarter but could only register 2 points on the scoreboard as Ahane led 2-1 to 0-2 at the break.

Sean O’Dea got us off to a great start in the second half with a point. Ahane responded with their third goal of the game before John Stack scored a great goal after good work by Timmy O’Keefe. This left the score line at 3-3 to 1-3 with 10 minutes to play. The killer score was to come some minutes later when Ahane converted a penalty which saw them lead by three goals and they held this lead until the end.

U12 Football

The U12 footballers travelled to UL to play their final game of the year. Their original opposition failed to turn up so they were pitted against a very strong Claughan outfit. All enjoyed the experience, this finishes the playing season for this very dedicated bunch, well done to all the players and mentors alike. Special mention was reserved for our "Heroine" down through the years, Nicole Kenny, who cannot continue playing due to the unfortunate rule not allowing girls to play U14. She got a huge cheer from her teammates and a big send off. Nicole has always given great service to the club every since she pick up a hurley and football and our loss will be another clubs gain as she will no doubt go on to play for many years to come.
