In a sunny Boher. Kilteely Dromkeen overcame the challenge of Ahane in the first round of the Ryan & Riordan Insurance sponsored East Junior A hurling championship.  Kilteely Dromkeen opened brightly with points from Pauid Ahern, Darren Connery Pauric Keogh (2) and Francis Stokes on the edge of the square before Ahane opened their account with a point from Daniel Ahern resulting from an indirect free in the middle of the field after referee, Denis Richardson stopped play after a collision of players. Kilteely-Dromkeen added further points with Christopher O'Dea getting off the mark as well as Darren Connery and Paudi Ahern adding to their tally. Ahane finished the half stronger with points from Niall Collins and Paul Ryan as well as 2 pointed frees from Mark Foley leaving it 10 points to 5 at half time in favour of the Kilteely-Dromkeen men.
Ahane opened the second half brightly but a succession of 5 wides put paid to any chance that they had of getting back in touch with Kilteely-Dromkeen as they piled on the points through Pauric Keogh (who finished with a total of 7 from play), Paudi Aherne and Francis Stokes who also bagged the solitary goal of the night late in the game with a sweet one handed strike to the bottom corner of the net. Despite being well down, Ahane never gave up the fight but 3 points from their mid-field pairing in the last quarter was their only reward as the Kilteely Dromkeen defence stood strong against their attacks. Kilteely-Dromkeen finished out the night with a points from substitute John O'Connell from way out in the corner and the scoring was completed by a Pauid Ahern point from the middle of the field.
At the final whistle it finished Kilteely-Dromkeen 1-21 to Ahane's 8 points.
