Groaner of the Week:

A couple decided to visit the Natural History Museum. “How old is this dinosaur skeleton?” they asked the tour Guide.

“It’s sixty-five million. Eleven years, two months and seventeen days old.” Came the reply. “That’s amazing said the visitors that you can know so precisely. How do you do that? Is it with carbon dating techniques?”

“No”, said the Guide, “When I first started working here I was told it was sixty-five million years old. And I started working here eleven years, two months and seventeen days ago!”

Riddle of the Week:

Last Week’s Riddle: There are two sitting in the corner, one stuck in the room, none at home but one in the shelter. What are they?

Answer:

The letter ‘R’

This week’s riddle:

What can you hold in your left hand but not in your right?

Seanfhocail na Seachtain:

“Is maith é an bád a dhéanann amach an caladh a d’fhág sé.”

“It’s a good boat that finds the harbour it left.”

(It’s good to remember where your roots are.)

This or That:

Pick between the two items below and see if you’re right. Afterall you have a 50/50 chance:

Last week’s ‘This or That’ was:

Which of the following is a mandatory part of the school curriculum in Armenia: Chess or hairdressing?

Answer:  Chess lessons became mandatory in 2011

This Week’s ‘This or That’:

How much did Donald Trump pay on his hairdressing before the 2016 presidential debates. Was it more or less than $50,000

On This Day: On this day in 1943, 35 children died in a fire at St. Joseph’s Orphanage, Cavan

Brain Teasers:

Last week’s brain teaser was:

A farmer needs to take a fox, a chicken, and a sack of grain across a river. The only way across the river is by a small boat, which can only hold the farmer and one of the three items. Left unsupervised, the chicken will eat the grain, and the fox will eat the chicken. However, the fox won’t try to eat the grain, and neither the fox nor the chicken will wander off. How does the farmer get everything across the river?

Answer: The farmer must follow these steps.

  1. Take the chicken across the river.
  2. Come back with an empty boat.
  3. Take the grain across the river.
  4. Bring the chicken back.
  5. Take the fox across the river.
  6. Come back with an empty boat.
  7. Take the chicken across the river.

This week’s Brain Teaser:

What is 3/7 chicken, 2/3 cat, and 2/4 goat?

Focal na Seachtain:

In focal na seachtain I have included a word or phrase that you can try and bring into your speech during the week to help build up the ‘cupla focal.’

Muintire = People

“Muintire mo m’athar” = My father’s people.

Tales of Ó Muireartaigh: The commentaries of Michael Ó M are the stuff of legend. Unfortunately, we’ve come to the end of those famous sayings. However I’ve been keeping a beauty for this week.

“No known roof is as beautiful as the skies above.”
