Groaner of the Week:
Two antennas decided to get married, the ceremony was pretty boring, but the reception was great!
Riddle of the Week:
Last week’s riddle was: I sound like one letter but I’m written with three?
Answer: Eye
This week’s riddle:
There are two sitting in the corner, one stuck in the room, none at home but one in the shelter. What are they?
Seanfhocail na Seachtain:
“Ní fhanann uain ná taoide le haon duine.”
Opportunity or tide wait for no person
This or That:
Pick between the two items below and see if you’re right. Afterall you have a 50/50 chance:
Last week’s ‘This or That’ was:
Which came first, sharks or trees?
Answer: Sharks have been around for approximately 400 million years. Trees have existed for about 350 million years. So the shark is older.
This Week’s ‘This or That’:
Which of the following is a mandatory part of the school curriculum in Armenia: Chess or hairdressing?
On This Day: On this day in 1995 English hooligans riot at Lansdowne Road.
Brain Teasers:
Last week’s brain teaser was: The water level in a reservoir is low but doubles every day. It takes 60 days to fill the reservoir. How long does it take for the reservoir to become half full?
Answer: 59 days. If the water level doubles every day, the reservoir on any given day was half the size of the previous day. If the reservoir is full on day 60, that means it was half full on day 59, not on day 30.
This week’s Brain Teaser:
A farmer needs to take a fox, a chicken, and a sack of grain across a river. The only way across the river is by a small boat, which can only hold the farmer and one of the three items. Left unsupervised, the chicken will eat the grain, and the fox will eat the chicken. However, the fox won’t try to eat the grain, and neither the fox nor the chicken will wander off. How does the farmer get everything across the river?
Focal na Seachtain:
In focal na seachtain I have included a word or phrase that you can try and bring into your speech during the week to help build up the ‘cupla focal.’
Bundún = Bottom; fundament
“Tá bundún ort.” You are talking nonsense.
Tales of Ó Muireartaigh: The commentaries of Michael Ó M are the stuff of legend.
“Mike Houlihan for Limerick. Houlihan, the cattle jobber. He had his jaw broken by a kick from a bullock two months ago. He’s back now. ‘Twas some bullock that broke Mike Houlihan’s jaw!”
