There was no Jackpot winner this week with the Jackpot standing at €13,500. The winner of the Lucky Dip for €25 was Clare Benson. Congratulations Clare.
However, to make up for the lack of a big winner, I’ve added a few new section to this newsletter; Groaner of the week; Life Hack of the Week; Focal na Seachtain and This or That.
Groaner of the Week:
I stayed up all night trying to figure out where the sun was. Then it dawned on me.
Riddle of the Week:
Last week’s riddle was: I shave every day, but my beard stays the same. What am I?
Answer: A barber
Tip of the Week (Now called Life Hacks!):
Put a wooden spoon across a pot of boiling water to prevent it boiling over. This one is probably one of the best known life hacks. Why does it work? Well, a few reasons. The wood is a natural repellent which for some reason causes the bubbles to stop rising. Also, the spoon is at a cooler temperature than the water, meaning that once the bubbles reach the spoon, the steam and bubbles condense back into the water.
This week’s riddle:
What has 16 legs but can’t walk.
Seanfhocail na Seachtain:
“Coinsias gan smear an sciath is fear.”
A clear conscience is the best shield.
This or That:
Pick between the two items below and see if you’re right. Afterall you have a 50/50 chance:
Between 1900 and 2020 what is the longest time that New York has ever gone without a murder? 12 days or 12 hours.
On This Day: On this day in 1905 Ireland’s first motor show opened in Dublin.
Brain Teasers:
Last week’s brain teaser was: Your parents have six sons including you and each one has a sister. How many people are there in the family?
Answer: 9 – two parents, six sons and one daughter
Focal na Seachtain:
In focal na seachrain I have included is a word that you can try and bring into your speech during the week to help build up the cupla focal.
“Geimhreadh” – Winter; Lá geimhridh = Winter’s day.
This week’s Brain Teaser: I am the beginning of sorrow and the end of sickness. You can’t express happiness without me. I am always in risk yet never in danger. You may find me in the sun, but I am never out of the darkness. What am I?
Tales of Ó Muireartaigh: The commentaries of Michael Ó M are the stuff of legend.
"Up Down and down comes the rain."
