Our Senior and Junior A teams had a mixed bag
of results on the opening day of the 2010 football championship.
Our Senior Team lost their opening round game
in Dunshaughlin against Summerhill on a scoreline of Summerhill 0-17 Donaghmore
Ashbourne 2-08. In summary the story of the game was our missed chances
in the opening half where we registered 6 wides, 4 attempts fell short and
1 hit the post as we trailed at the break by 0-11 to 0-03. We did give a better
account of ourselves in the second half and managed to reduce the deficit to 2
points with 8 minutes to go but 4 unanswered points from 53 to 56 minutes
closed out the game for the hill. Match Report will be on the website later.
Our Junior A team had a better result as they
travelled to Dunderry to play O'Mahonys in the opening round. Our lads were
always on top and lead at the break by 1-05 to 0-05 with the goal coming from
Faolan Smith just before the interval. We continued to dominate the second
half and with a strong performance from Ian Dowd and Kevin Lanigan in midfield
we ran out 1-13 to 0-09 winners. Match Report will be on the website later.
