Anniversary Celebrations
This weekend the GAA celebrated the 125th Anniversary of the
formation of the GAA. To mark this historic occasion Donaghmore Ashbourne GAA
Club held a weekend of celebrations. Events over the weekend included a
presentation on the early history of the club by Frank Reidy, together with a
night of traditional music, song and dance on Friday night. On Saturday
the club had a celebration mass in the Ashbourne church which was followed
by a parade of teams to the clubhouse. GAA president Christy Cooney was due to
visit the club to unveil a plaque to commemorate the occasion but due to
illness he had to pull out at the final minute, however GAA Vice President and
Munster Chairman Jimmy O’Gorman was present as a most suitable substitute.
Thanks to
all who took part in the celebrations this weekend, and to everyone who put in
the hard work organising the events. We’ll have some photos of the celebrations
up on the website later today.
Presentation Night – This Friday
Members are
invited to a presentation night honouring the 1959 Intermediate Team and Past
Chairmen. The presentation night takes place on Friday 6th November in the
clubhouse. All are welcome!
