Meath Ladies

Three goals in two matches for Meadhbh Byrne!!

The Royal Gaels star, who was a constant threat to the Dublin defence, scored the opening goal in Sunday’s 2-5 to 0-7 win at Pairc Tailteann.

Well done to the girls on securing their second win of the league. Next up is Waterford next weekend.

NiamhO!

Niamh O’Sullivan has called time on her long and successful inter county career. A great servant for Meath, she lined out in all age groups in the green and gold from the age of 12 to Senior.

Making her adult county debut in 2008 v Kildare, Niamh went on to Captain the Meath in 2017 & 2018, leading the team to a

Leinster Intermediate title in 2017 and captaining them to their first ever All Ireland Intermediate Championship Final in Croke Park in 2018 v Tyrone. Her performances throughout the campaign won Niamh her first All Star nomination.  Late 2018/19 saw Niamh take a year out to travel to Australia where she suffered a cruciate injury playing for Michael Cusacks in Sydney. In true Niamh style, she put everything into her recovery and was back in action for Meath the following year.

2020 brought  the long awaited All Ireland Intermediate victory in which Niamh played a pivotal role. That game was played on 20th December in a deserted Croke Park due to the Covid 19 Pandemic.

Within the following nine months Niamh, together with her Meath teammates,  had added a Division 2 National League medal and All Ireland Senior Championship medal to her tally, topping it off with a TG4 All Star award, a first for our club.

2022 saw success in the Division 1 National League final and a second All Ireland Senior Championship title, where her outstanding performance won her the Player of Match award. In what was a fantastic season for the Royal Star, she also picked up a PWC/GPA Player of the Month award, an Irish Times/Sport Ireland Player of the Month award and the Croke Park Hotel/LGFA Player of the Month award.

Niamh has been an inspiration to young players the length and breadth of the county down the years and will be a huge loss to the team.

We wish Niamh all the best in her retirement from the Meath set up but look forward to seeing more of her in the black and amber for years to come.
