Ladies

Our Under 14 Reserves put up a fantastic fight on a full sized pitch on Friday in Kilbride against Ratoath in their Reserve League Final. The girls from Ratoath went away with the cup but our girls left Kilbride with their heads held high! Hard luck girls, you did us all proud and played a great game of football. Final result Ratoath 5-8 Royal Gaels 3-1.

Dunshaughlin U12 team win best presented team for 2015 in Newry

This award normally goes to the team that presents itself best during the parade – banners, discipline, a sense of ‘team’.

However yesterday we had an unusual situation. In the fourth quarter-final in the cup competition, both teams thought the game had finished in a draw, though the referee’s tally had one team ahead by a point. There were some tears among the young players on the ‘losing’ team, who appealed to the referee. Our tournament rules say that referees’ decisions are final, but both team managers conferred, with the result that the ‘winning’ team, Dunshaughlin, in the spirit of fairness and sportsmanship, agreed to play extra time. Dunshaughlin lost in extra time, but they won something much greater than a game. They won the respect of all those who witnessed it. They gave an outstanding example to all young players. This was truly the spirit of the GAA on display. Well done lads and to all involved we are very proud of you.
