Minor training Monday and Thursday at 7pm .

U-21’s easily accounted for last years finalists Milltown in Tuam Stadium on Saturday afternoon on a score line of 3-8 to 0-3.

We played with the aid of the elements in the first half but went two points down early on. After missing four early frees we finally got off the mark with a Sean Meeneghan free. With five minutes left in the half we had gone 0-4 to 0-2 ahead with points from Paul Walsh, Kevin Carey and Padraig Walsh. Late points from Owen Carey and Padraig Walsh gave us a four point cushion at the interval, 0-6 to 0-2.

Milltown landed the first point of the second half but they failed to score again despite having a strong wind at their backs. This was due mainly to the outstanding display of our full back line. Sean Meeneghan replied with a point and the game was as good as over when Meeneghan struck for his first goal after ten minutes to leave the score 1-7 to 0-3. Kevin Carey put further daylight between the teams when he rattled the net from close range and soon after Meeneghan grabbed his second goal after latching on to a long ball and rounding the keeper. A Padraig Walsh free ended the scoring to leave Headford convincing fourteen point winners. The winning margin could have been much greater if we hadn't missed a number of easy close range goal chances in the second half.

Kevin Carey just about held off Reece O Toole for man of the match. Others to shine were top scorer Sean Meeneghan, Padraig Walsh, Joe Keane and the Bane brothers, Alan and Brian. We play Kilconly in the next round on March 8th /9th .

Headford- S Walsh, B Bane, D Hannon, C Thornton, R O Toole, F Joyce, E Flynn, R Higgins, O Carey (0-1), J Keane, A Bane, K Carey (1-1), S Meeneghan (2-2), Paul Walsh (0-1), Padraig Walsh (0-3). Subs- S Nally for J Keane, J Hughes for Paul Walsh.
