Our u-21's could count themselves somewhat lucky after they overcame Killererin 5-9 to 1-17 after extra time in their first round Championship game in Headford last Saturday. Conditions were ideal with both pitch and weather perfect for football. We stormed out of the blocks with two early goals, one from a Padraig Cunningham penalty and the other from the boot of Dylan Corbett. Killererin fought back with a goal of their own and eventually narrowed the gap to two points not long before the break. However, we finished the half strong with points from cousins Niall and Padraig Cunningham adding to a superbly taken Alan Meenaghan goal. That left the score at 3-4 to 1-5 at the end of a very entertaining first half. Killererin controlled a much tighter second half as they contained the Headford attack to a solitary point from play. They deservedly led heading into added time but a Niall Cunningham free forced extra time. Richard Fahy and Alan Meenaghan showed their quality in extra time as they were on hand to hit the net once each to eventually see off a spirited Killererin team in an extra time that saw both teams reduced to 14 men.
Best for us were Cathal Newell, Alan Meenaghan and Richard Fahy on a day that many of our players didn't play to their potential. We now go into the winner's group and the draw has yet to be made for our next game.

Our u-13's started their league campaign with a one point loss away to Kilconly last Sunday. They face neighbours Caherlistrane next Sunday in Headford at 11am.
