Intermediates opened their league campaign with a hard earned draw against Micheal Breathnachs in Headford last Friday. An uneventful first half finished 1-3 to 0-4 in favour of the visitors. The introduction of Padraic Cunningham at half time increased our scoring threat up front, while the addition of Niall and Alan Meeneghan added to that. However the highlight of that second half was our defensive display. With Breathnachs pouring forward every chance they got, we turned them over time after time as the lads put everything on the line to keep them out. However with time running out they finally breached our defence for a soft goal. This gave them a four point lead but we responded well and a Niall Meeneghan free left just one score between the teams. Then a long hopeful ball from Stephen Casey was fisted to the net by Padraig Cunningham to draw us level. We almost snatched the win right at the death but Breathnachs keeper Ronan O Beolain caught a Padraic Cunningham effort over the crossbar and James Molloy immediately blew the final whistle. Next up is a trip to Corofin in two weeks time.
