Men’s Club Results
Open Singles Thursday May 15th
Congratulations to John Joe Foley who had a fantastic score of 41 points to win this week’s Open Singles. In second place was John Cleary who had 38 points. The best gross was a closely fought battle this week with Andrew McCormack coming out on top with 35 points.
PG Lyons Cup - Sunday May 18th
Stroke play seems to bring out the best in golfers and this was most apparent in the scoring this weekend for the PG Lyons Cup. Congratulations to Martin Ralph who had a fantastic 64 to take the cup. In second place was Neilus Murphy who was only 2 over par on the day with a brilliant 65.
The best gross was won once again by the ever consistent Brian Lenihan. In third place was Jason O’Donovan who shot a 67 and in fourth was Mossie Stack who had 68. Well done to all the prize winners.

Monday May 26th sees the 2nd of our Summer 55+ Seniors Opens. The format of this competition is a 3 Ball Texas Scramble and this competition is open to both Ladies and Gents or any combination of both.
Why not invite your friends to take part in our Summer Senior Open days which will be held on the last Monday of each month until September.
Members €5 and visitors only €10.
Club Classic – sponsored by Brian Geary Car Sales
This year’s club classic which is sponsored by Brian Geary Car Sales takes place on Friday, Saturday & Sunday 13th/14th & 15th of June, 2014. Our annual fundraiser has become a key date in many of our golfing diaries. This event, as with other years, forms a key part of our fundraising activities. All funds raised from these events have been reinvested in our course and we can see the benefits of this every year with the various course improvements.
Brian Geary has been a long-time supporter of this event and we extend our thanks to Brian and all the staff.
Entry Fee costs €200 for a team of four which includes a sumptuous three course meal provided by renowned chef John Quinn and a goodie bag for all team members.
Prizes include Powakaddy Trolleys, Golf Equipment and Green Fees from some of the most prestigious courses on the South West Coast of Ireland. Please show your support and gather your friends, work colleagues & fellow golfers and enter. The timesheet is now open so please contact the office on 069 76500 ext. 20 to book your tee time.
Volunteers
We will need volunteers to help with some course work and office work in the weeks leading up to the classic. If you have some free time please contact the office for further details.
Men’s introduction to Golf
Newcastle West Golf Club in conjunction with the Confederation of Golf in Ireland are running an initiative to introduce Men to golf through a 10 week beginners programme.
The programme consists of group lessons with PGA professional Conor McCormick and course activities accompanied by members of the club including:
• Short game challenges
• Game on shortened course
• 3/5/9 hole fun scrambles
The sessions will last no more than 1.5 hours per week, which means there is no reason for Men to miss out on the fun!
On Wednesday 4th June we are hosting a “ Taster Session” which is an opportunity for Men of all ages to give golf a try through a selection of fun activities. This day is free of charge and all males are welcome to attend.
Lessons proper will begin on Wednesday 11th June 2014. Please pass on this information to any man you feel may be interested.
