Galway County Under 19 B Championship Final: Kinvara 3-07 – St Michaels 0-06.
St Michaels’ Under 19 team’s strong Championship run that involved annexing the West Board title seven weeks earlier came up short against a Kinvara side who had earned a reputation for goal-scoring in their campaign. Rather than dwell on the subject of the game being fixed at the Northerly outpost of Milltown, much of the debate beforehand was on whether a 7 week break from winning the West Board Title or having to play 2 games during the same period for the North Board Title winners would be the most beneficial. The answer lay with the latter option, as Kinvara matched St Michaels’ physical presence and also continued their own rich vein of goal-scoring form. The South Galway Club scored their 3 “majors” at critical junctures, and the December conditions just were not conducive to picking off “3 handy points” to cancel out the goals. St Michaels’ players & management can feel pleased with their achievement of winning the West Board title and have lots to carry into next years’ Under 19 Competitions and also look forward to adult level football in the immediate future.
