On the sports front the Golden seniors had a terrific win last Sunday evening in Cappawhite when they comprehensively defeated Annacarthy to claim the fourth semi final spot in the west championship. The final score was Golden 1-17 Annacarthy 1-11. Golden came into the game as underdogs but it was clear from very early on that they were very fired up and Annacarthy struggled to match their intensity and aggression. All over the field Golden were well on top and got some great scores from play over the hour. A lucky long range goal ten minutes into the second half from Paddy Ivers seemed to kill off the Eire Og challenge and Golden went on to seal a memorable victory. The only downside to the win was a serious looking knee injury sustained by Shane Stapelton in the first fifteen minutes. We wish him the best in his recovery.

The lads are now in the last four in the west and the semi finals take place this Sunday evening in Cashel. First up at 6pm are Kickhams and Cappawhite and this is followed at 7.30 by Golden and Clonoulty. We wish the team all the best and hope that as many Golden people as possible come out and support the team.

Elsewhere the Golden junior hurling team had a good win against Holycross last weekend. The game took place in Holycross and even though the juniors were missing a number of players they played very well and won on a scoreline of 2-10 to 1-11. The junior footballers play Latin Cullen next Wednesday in Lattin.
