On the sports front the Golden intermediates drew with Emly last Friday night in Bansha

The following is the report from the weekly nationalist

Kavanagh Coaches West IFC

Emly 3-8 Golden/Kilfeacle 2-11

Ger Dawson proved to be the hero of the hour for Emly in this first round Kavanagh's Coaches West Intermediate Football game played in Bansha last Friday night. With Golden/Kilfeacle coming from behind in the final quarter and leading by three points coming up to full time, Dawson latched on to a speculative lob into the Golden/Kilfeacle goalmouth and dispatched the ball into the net to level the sides just before the final whistle.
In perfect conditions Emly were first out of the traps and had three early points, a brace from David Burns and one from Michael Burke before the excellent Jimmy Tierney pointed from a free ad play for Golden/Kilfeacle to leave the minimum between the sides after eleven minutes. Emly had wind advantage and looked sharp .Pat Buckley set up Bob McEniry for a well taken point and a minute later, Buckley again started a movement with Ger Dawson which set up Bob McEniry for an opportunist goal after beating the advancing Gavin Ryan. So Emly led 1-4 to 0-2 after fifteen minutes.

Shane Stapleton, who was causing all kinds of trouble for the Emly defence, saw his shot half saved but deflected, over the line for a goal, by a defender in the eighteenth minute to bring Golden/Kilfeacle back into the game. Bob McEniry and James Tierney then swopped points to leave only two points between the sides after twenty five minutes. Just before the short whistle a high ball into the Golden Kilfeacle goalmouth was dropped over the line by the keeper, giving Emly a half time lead 2-5 to 1-3.

Early in the second half Ger Dawson and Shane Stapleton exchanged points. And Pat Buckley increased the Emly lead with a further point. Brendan Moloney and James Tierney reduced the lead with points and Bob McEniry pointed for Emly giving them a 2-8 to 1-6 lead at the end of the third quarter. The final quarter belonged to Golden Kilfeacle and Emly did not raise another flag until Ger Dawson's late goal. Golden fought back with four points, from Aidan Fogarty, James Tierney and two from James Hayes to leave just a point between the sides with eight minutes remaining. Indeed Emly were lucky when James Hayes missed a gilt edge goal chance but he later made amends and goaled after good work by Sean Carr and Brendan Moloney. This goal put Golden Kilfeacle in front by two points and Brendan Moloney added another point to give his side a three point cushion with only minutes remaining. However Emly came back and got the equaliser at the final whistle. This was no more than the deserved, but will have to look at their final quarter performance. Golden Kilfeacle will rue the late slip up but both of these teams are sure to feature in the knockout phase of this competition.

Emly: Alan O' Brien; Alan Sheehy, Mike Ryan, David Hennessy; John Purcell, Mike Ring, Adrian Hennessy; Donal Condon, Pat Buckley (0-1); Declan McEniry, Michael Burke (0-1) Joe Lonergan (1-0), Ger Dawson (1-1), Bob McEniry (1-3), David Byrnes (0-2). Sub: James Purcell for Alan Sheehy.
