MENS NOTES:

Our seniors had a good win over Tuam Stars in round 2 of the championship on Sunday.

The intermediates lost out in round 2 on a scoreline of An Spidéal 4-11 to Corofin 4-9.

Our minors contest the Football Championship, North, on Wednesday evening with a game against Claregalway in Corofin at 7.30.  Referee for the game is Gerry Daly.

U-16s play in St James U-16 Tournament on Sunday, 6 July.  We have the same regular 10 players that come to all training sessions but it is important that all players attend.

This Saturday’s under 8 ‘Go Game’ against Dunmore McHales is cancelled. Training as normal instead at 10.00 am in Belclare.

Our under 14 team took part in the All Ireland Féile Competition over the weekend. Although they had a good win over Claregalway in the group stage they lost to Bredagh, Co Down and Nemo Rangers, Co Cork. This resulted in qualification for the Shield Competition where they were pitted against Salthill-Knocknacarra. The teams were level at half time and Corofin got the first two points of the second half. However a goal from a penalty put Salthill-Knocknacarra in front and they maintained this lead to the end. It was disappointing for our lads not to proceed further but it is hoped that they will learn from the experience of being involved in such a prestigious competition and that this experience will be of benefit to them going forward.

The club was delighted to host Nemo Rangers from Cork for the weekend and a special word of thanks must go to the families who hosted the Nemo players and mentors who were delighted with the hospitality and kindness shown to them over the weekend. They really enjoyed the Barbeque and Disco held in Dr Duggan Hall after attending Mass in Corofin Church on Saturday evening.  In fact Nemo Rangers reached the final of the Cup Competition where they were defeated by Naas.  Bredagh from Down, who were also in our group, won the Shield Competition which gives an indication of the quality of the teams that were in our group.

Congratulations to the Corofin Girls team on winning the Shield Competition and to Foxrock-Cabinteely from Dublin, who were hosted by the Corofin Girls, on being victorious in the Cup Competition.

Following Féile it is back to competitive action for the Under 14 team in the County Shield Competition. Loughrea has given them a walkover in the game that was scheduled to be played on Friday evening, so our next match will be on Friday 11 July at a neutral venue against the winners of the Glenamaddy-Glinsk v Mountbellew-Moylough match.

LADIES FOOTBALL:

The weekend proved to be immensely successful for our under 14 girls.  The girls played in division 1, group A and defeated St Rynaghs, Offaly but lost out to Kilkerrin-Clonberne and Foxrock-Cabinteely.  These two teams would eventually meet in the cup final, giving an indication of how strong a group we were in.  Foxrock-Cabinteely, our guests at the weekend, won the cup final.  We went on to compete in the shield and had wins over St Brendan's, Ballygar and Fossa, Killarney to reach the final.  In the final we had a great win over Kilkenny City by 2-3 to 1-4. Congrats to all involved in this great victory.   Bonfires greeted the team and mentors as they toured the parish on Sunday night.
