MENS NOTES:
Congratulations to Ian Burke who has been voted Cadbury Hero of the Future. This is a great honour for the player and his club. Ian overcame stiff competition from fellow Hero of the Future nominees; under 21 teammates Fiontán Ó Curraoin and Shane Walsh as well as Brian Hurley (Cork), Paul Cribbin (Kildare) and Jack Brady (Cavan). Ian was selected as winner after a tough deliberation between the Cadbury Hero of the Future judges, former Kildare Senior Footballer Dermot Earley, former Dublin Manager Paul Caffrey and TG4 journalist Micheal Ó Domhnaill. This annual award is given to the top performing under-21 player in the Provincial and All-Ireland Championship each year. Ian joins an elite list including: Ciarán Kilkenny (Dublin 2012); Thomas Flynn (Galway 2011); Rory O'Carroll (Dublin 2010); Colm O'Neill (Cork 2009); Killian Young (Kerry 2008); Fintan Goold (Cork 2007); Keith Higgins (Mayo 2006).
Well done Ian, your club and county are proud of you.
Our senior team lost to Caherlistrane in the quarter final of the John Dunne Cup on Saturday on a scoreline of: Caherlistrane 0-12 to Corofin 0-8.
This is the final call re the club’s prediction sports quiz. All cards must be returned by this Wednesday (26 June). Cards returned after that date may not have all events counted in the scoring. Cards, costing €10, should be returned to any committee member.
Best wishes go to our under 14 girls who play in Féile in Derry this weekend.
Well done to Niall Higgins, Joe Nohilly and David Kelly who completed the trip from Mizen Head to Malin Head, to raise funds for the Corofin Community Development Association. The trio made a triumphant return to Corofin on Sunday evening. A selection of pictures taken by John McManus from Sunday evening can be seen on his website – johnmcmanusphotography.com.
