The annual David Canney under 13 competition was completed in Corofin on Friday night. Corofin won the cup for the first time in 5 years defeating Annaghdown on a score of 5-9 to 2-5 in a very well contested game. The club would like to thank Sean, Geraldine and Shane for presenting the cup to Corofin captain Darragh Silke. We would like to thank Annaghdown, Milltown and Tuam Stars for playing in the tournament.

The Underage GAA AGM will be held in St Colman’s Room, Corofin Church on Tuesday 18th of December at 7.30 pm. Parents and new members are very welcome.

Minor A League Final – Corofin 1-16 Annaghdown 3-5 Corofin minors completed a clean sweep of titles in Tuam Stadium on Sunday last. Having already won the North Board and County titles, this talent bunch of players defeated Annaghdown in the Minor A League Final on a score line of Corofin 1-16 to Annaghdown 3-5. This gave Corofin a five point win after extra time in an excellent game of football. Considering that the game was played in December, tremendous credit is due to both teams for serving up a highly entertaining and skilful game of football. This was a great achievement following on from the big win also by our under 13s on the previous Friday evening in the David Canney Cup – the future is looking extremely bright for the club. Annaghdown dominated the early exchanges and led by 1-3 to 0-2 after 14 mins, the goal coming from Kevin Moylan. A second Annaghdown goal from John Potter gave Annaghdown a 2-3 to 0-4 lead, coming up to half time, with all Corofin’s points coming from frees by Jason Leonard. A superb save from David Wall, in the Corofin goal, ensured that Annaghdown’s lead remained at five points at the break. An early pointed free from Jason Leonard was cancelled out by an excellent score from a free by Niall Kinneen. It was seven minutes into the second half before Corofin got their first score from play, a point by Scott Veldon. This was followed by a superb show of skill from corner forward, Dylan Wall. He won the ball in his own half and delivered a low pass to the inside forwards. However Dylan showed an incredible bust of speed to outpace his man, chip up the ball and win a free which was duly dispatched by Jason Leonard. Points from play by Leonard and Wall narrowed the gap to one point, ten minutes into the half. This should have sparked the county champions into looking for the levelling score but a defensive error allowed Annaghdown score their third goal, courtesy of Kevin Moylan. Two pointed frees from Leonard, one from the 45, reduced the deficit but a superb effort from Annaghdown full back, Danny Kerr increased their lead to 3 points again, with only 6 minutes remaining. A well worked goal from Dylan Wall brought the teams level for the first time with only 3 minutes remaining. A diving save from Corofin full back, Cathal Reilly prevented a winning point for Annaghdown and ensured that the game would finish level – Corofin 1-11 to Annaghdown 3-5. The game now went to two 10 minute periods of extra time. Corofin dominated the exchanges and a point from play by Scott Veldon gave Corofin the lead for the first time – 3 minutes into the first period of extra time. A point from play by Jason Leonard ensured that Corofin went into the break leading by two points. Corofin continued to hold the upper hand and had points from play by Leonard, a fisted effort from Manus Duggan and man-of the match Jason Lenord finished the scoring with his 12th point (9 from frees and 3 from play), a free, to leave the final score: Corofin 1-16, Annaghdown 3-5. Well done to the team, the manager Brian Murphy, selectors Jimmy Sice and Gary Delaney and all involved with this team throughout the year.
