GAA CLUB NOTES
Last Monday evening (8th May) the Junior A team played Monivea-Abbey in their opening round of the Junior A Championship North. While it ended in a win for Monivea-Abbey, it was a great effort from all the players with plenty of positives to carry into the next round. Corofin 1-7 Monivea-Abbey 1-15.
Last Wednesday the U-19’s played Dunmore MacHales in the Galway ‘A’ North League Semi-Final. Despite a late change of venue from Dunmore to Corofin, the game did not disappoint the spectator. A closely contested game with extra time required to separate the teams. Thankfully our lads came out on top with a single-point winning margin. The game finished Corofin 1-12 Dunmore MacHales 1-11.
On Thursday the Junior team host Caherlistrane in Corofin at 8:00pm for Round 6 of Division 4B, on Friday the Senior team host Claregalway in Corofin at 8:00pm for Round 6 of Division 1 and on Sunday the Intermediates host Glenamaddy in Corofin at 4:00pm for Round 6 of Division 3A. Best of luck to all the players and Management. Please show your support for the teams this weekend with all games at home.
Congratulations to Dylan McHugh for his selection on the GAA Football Team of The Week. Dylan is in fine form this year and his performance in the Connacht Final was outstanding.
LGFA CLUB NOTES
Last Monday evening (8th May) the Junior B team played Dunmore MacHales in Belclare for Round 6 of Division 5. The girls gave a top class performance and recorded a comfortable win with the scoreline finishing on Corofin 2-19 Dunmore MacHales 1-6. Goals from Louise Reilly and Rachel Burke
On Thursday the Senior team played Dunmore MacHales also in Corofin for Round 6 of Division 1. It was another fantastic effort against a Dunmore MacHales side in the same week. A five-star performance left the full-time scoreline at Corofin 5-17 Dunmore MacHales 0-7.
On Sunday the Junior B team played St Fursey’s of Headford in Corofin for Round 6 of Division 7. A verry strong St Fursey’s team come out winners on a scoreline of Corofin 1-06 St Fursey’s 3-15. Goal scorer Emma Burke.
UNDERAGE
The Ladies Club had multiple players representing Galway at different grades last week. Last Wednesday Ella Zywczyk was with the Galway Minor panel that defeated Mayo (2-7 to 1-7) by a goal in Claremorris for Round 3 of the Connacht Minor Championship. On Friday Aoife Burke was part of the Galway U-16 panel that beat Roscommon (3-11 to 5-3) in Monivea and on Saturday Emily Canavan (vice-captain) and Grace McGrath were on the U-14 panel that narrowly lost out to Mayo (1-8 to 0-10) in TUS Athlone for the Quarter-Final of the All-Ireland Championship Series. To have girls on County panels at multiple grades is a testament to the work done by the coaches and the players themselves. Keep up the great work!
The U12 girls Blue team had a great game against neighbours Caherlistrane in Caherlistrane for Round 4 of Division 2. Both teams were competitive with plenty of quality football played by both sides. Judging by the smiles on all their faces, the girls were delighted to come away with the win, making that 4 wins from four for the Blue team. Well done girls.
