SYMPATHY:

Our club President, Joe Flaherty, passed away peacefully last Wednesday in his 93rd year surrounded by his loving family.  The club extends its deepest sympathy to his wife Maureen, sons Bill, Joseph, Gerry, daughter in law Carmel, sister Bridie, brother Paddy,  sister in law Mary, grandchildren, extended family and friends.  The Flaherty name is synonymous with Corofin GAA for decades and Joe was extremely proud of that heritage.   He was always a welcoming host to all teams who played in the Galway road venue and while the players changed, he was always on hand to congratulate or console the team managers and mentors from both sides.  With a few kind words of encouragement from Joe both players and managers left the iconic venue confident that better days were ahead.  As Club President he loved attending social functions, where recent successes were celebrated but always in the context of the modest beginnings the club had emerged from.  From parish leagues in Flaherty’s field to Croke Park on St Patrick’s Day, Joe would have been delighted with the evolution of the club in his lifetime. May his gentle soul rest in peace.
