CLUB NOTES:-

The County Final versus Mountbellew-Moylough has been fixed for Tuam Stadium at 4.00 pm on Sunday 15 October.

Forty years ago this year, in 1977, Corofin won only their third County Football Championship, having had previous victories in 1932 and 1946.  Corofin defeated Moycullen in the final on a scoreline of 1-9 to 0-3. The team was captained by Maurice Burke, who passed to Jimmy Duggan in the ninth minute of the first half for him to score the game’s only goal.   The team also featured Gerry and Ollie Burke who both went on to win All-Ireland Club titles with Corofin some 21 years later in 1998.  Our thanks as ever to Paddy Keating for supplying details of the game. There is further coverage relating to the team’s win by Jim Carney in this week’s Tuam Herald.

The Corofin team, county champions in 1977, are guests of honour at this year’s final in Tuam Stadium.

The Seniors maintain their good run in the league division 1 with a 1-14 to 1-8 win over Salthill / Knocknacarra played in The Prairie, Salthill on Sunday. ‬

We lost out  narrowly in the league division 3 to Athenry on a score line of Corofin 2-10 to Athenry 1-15 played in Corofin on Saturday evening.

Well done to our U16 team who had an excellent win by 6-12 to 1-11 over St Gabriel’s in the Championship semi-final played in Corofin last week.

Connacht GAA has announced details of 2017/2018 GAA National Student Bursary Scheme.  Full details and an application form are available on the Club website – www.corofingaa.ie.  The closing date is Friday 6 October.

The Club offers its sympathy to Jack Murphy, Caherhugh, on the death of his sister Annie Murphy (nee Murphy), who died recently in New Jersey USA; to the family of Nora (Nina) Newell (née Connelly), Sylane and formerly Castlehacket; to the family, friends and colleagues of Very Rev.
