CLUB NOTES:

We had a thoroughly enjoyable evening of football at the 70th Anniversary Raftery Cup Finals played in glorious sunshine last Thursday evening in Corofin pitch.  Almost 200 pupils from 7 schools played in 6 highly entertaining games.  Ballinderry and Annaghill played in the 7 a-side Exhibition match, while Belclare defeated Cummer 2 in the 7 a-side Plate.  Currandrum defeated Cummer 1 in the 7 a-side Shield and St Colmans defeated Annaghill in the 9 a-side Shield.  The Raftery Cup finals produced two superb games of football played to a very high standard.  The 7 a-side Cup resulted in a win for Sylane, coached by Kieran Fitzgerald, who defeated Castlehackett on a scoreline of 3-5 to 1-5.   The 9 a-side final was also an excellent game of football with the sides level at half time.  Belclare, coached by Gary Sice, ran out winners on a final score of Belclare 4-2 to Ballinderry 2-3.  Thanks to the huge crowds who attended the finals on the evening and helped to make it such a wonderful occasion.  Thanks to our referees for the finals – Padraig Kelly and Tony Keating.  Thanks also to the school principals, staff and team trainers, the parents and especially all the children who participated in this great event.  On this very special occasion we pay a sincere thanks to the Raftery family for their long association with the Club and in particular the Raftery Cup.

The seniors had a good win in the league division 1 with a  4-11 to 2-10 win over  Cortoon Shamrocks played in Brownsgrove on Saturday evening.  The Corofin goals were scored by Justin Burke, Dylan Wall, Barry O'Donovan and Patrick Madden.

We suffered a one-point defeat to An Spidéal in the league division 3 played in Corofin on Sunday.  Down by 3-8 to 1-6 at half time the team made a great recovery only to lose out by 5-13 to 5-14.

Our under 15s lost to Claregalway by 2-6 to 5-14 in division 1A played in Corofin last week.

Our under 13s defeated Annaghdown by 7-3 to 2-3 in division 1A played in Corofin on Friday evening.

Our under 14s play Monivea-Abbey in division 1A at 7.00 pm in Corofin this Friday evening.   We are also at home to Caltra in under 14 division 3 on Friday evening at 7.00.
