CLUB NOTES:

We commence the defence of our County title on Sunday next, May 14, when we play  Cortoon Shamrocks in the first round of the Senior Championship in Tuam Stadium at 5.30 pm.

Our minors had a good win over Mountbellew/Moylough in the Minor A Football League (North),  played on Wednesday in Corofin.

The team then went on to defeat Monivea/Abbey by 1-11 to 1-9 on Sunday in Monivea.

We lost out to Kilconly by 0-11 to 1-15 in the League Division 3 played on Thursday in Corofin.

Under 14 A defeated Mountbellew/Moyloughby 7-6 to 3-4 in Corofin while the under 14 B team lost out to Killererin in Belclare. Both games were payed on Friday evening.

Our under 16s defeated Dunmore MacHales in their final Division 1 North group game played last week in Dunmore.   Well done to everyone who played.  This was another classy performance on a perfect summer's evening for football.

Juniors play Dunmore MacHales in league division 8 North on Friday at 7.30 in Corofin.

The Raftery Cup continues this Wednesday evening with the second round of games in Belclare at 6.15.  The final round of games will be played on Wednesday, 17 May. The Raftery Cup finals are scheduled for Corofin on Thursday 25 May.

Once again we want to sincerely thank all who supported the Jack McHugh 7 a-side Minor Football Memorial Tournament, which was held in Belclare on Bank Holiday Monday.  Thanks to the Clubs who participated, namely, Kilkerrin/Clonberne, Tuam Stars, Monivea/Abbey, Annaghdown, Milltown, Kilconly, Caherlistrane, Cortoon Shamrocks, Mountbellew/Moylough, Killererin, Corofin A and Corofin B. The Corofin B team won the tournament defeating Mountbellew / Moylough in the semifinal and Milltown in the final.  Declan McHugh presented the Jack McHugh Memorial Cup to Corofin B team after a super day's football. The tournament proved to be a tremendous success.  Great credit is due to the organisers, the players, the management from the different clubs, the sponsors and especially the young students from St. Jarlath’s College.

VOLUNTEERES NEEDED:-

The Connacht Sheep Shearing Festival takes place over the weekend of 19 to 21 May.  All proceeds of the weekend will go to the Corofin community development to pay existing loan on the playground and future projects including development of the Canon Oliver Hughes Park.  If you are available to volunteer, particularly on Sunday 21, May, contact John Raftery at 087 2585843.

The Club offers its sympathy to Eamonn Kitt and the Kitt family on the death of Eamonn’s uncle, Fr Liam Kitt.

We also sympathise with Tom Hynes, Sylane whose brother Dick died in Boston. Dick played midfield with the Corofin team which won the North Galway County Final in 1959. This was the first trophy won by the Club since the County title of 1946 .

May they Rest in Peace.

LADIES FOOTBALL:

Congratulations to our Club members Leanne Coen, Amy O’Donovan, Chloe Langan, Amy Coen and Orla Canney and not forgetting team manager Brian O’Donovan for their part in Galway winning the Connacht Minor title, following a 5-12 to 1-4 victory over Roscommon.  Their next game will be an All Ireland semi-final.

Well done to our U16 team on their Championship Div1A Shield Final win over Dunmore. Final score was 3-13 to 1-14, following an epic second half comeback after a dodgy first half.

Please Note

The prize amounts above are what each winner will receive.
