MENS NOTES:

Galway footballers have been drawn to play Armagh (away) in their first game in the football qualifiers on the weekend of 11/12 July.

Congratulations to our under 14 team who were crowned Regional Féile winners in Longford on Saturday.  They defeated Latton, Monaghan by 6-14 to 0-6, Trim, Meath by 3-4 to 0-2, Portlaoise, Laois by 2-6 to 1-3 and received a walkover from Fenagh St Caillins, Leitrim.  Well done to the players, the management team, parents and all involved with the team.   They played a Challenge match on Tuesday against St James’ in Renmore.   There is training as usual on Wednesday in Corofin from 6:30 to 7:45 pm.  The team returns to action on Friday evening when they play Oughterard in Corofin at 7.00 pm in the under 14 Division 1 Football Championship.

Also on Friday evening our juniors play Claregalway in the North Board Football Championship.  The game is fixed for 8.15 pm in Cregg (Annaghdown).

The Club Shop is now open on Fridays from 7.30 pm to 8.30 pm.  Outside of these times please contact John Raftery 087 2585843 or Patricia Langan 087 9428819.

The club offers its sympathy to the Noone and Cullinane families on the death of Brian Nonne, RIP, Manchester and formerly Ballinderry.   Brian played with the Club before moving to England and remained a loyal supporter.

LADIES FOOTBALL:

The Ladies Senior team won the County Division 1 League Final on Friday evening in Tuam Stadium defeating Kilkerrin-Clonberne for the first time in three years on a scoreline of 5-11 to 2-14.  The team included 11 underage players, most of whom have not played Senior football for us until this year, so we are delighted to report that the next generation has arrived.  There were great performances all over the pitch to match a full strength Kilkerrin Clonberne.  In the backs Emer Leonard and Áine Seoige marshalled our young talent to keep our opponents out.  Up front Roisín Leonard (3-2) and Leanne Coen (2-3) made the most of the scoring opportunities worked for them by our midfield and forwards.  Patricia Gleeson, our Captain for the League, was having her usual significant influence on the game until she had to leave the pitch injured in the second half.  However, the girls asked to fill this gap responded brilliantly and ensured us of the win.

It was our first League title win since 2011.  Áine Seioge proudly accepted the trophy and spoke ‘As Gaelige’ on behalf of the team because of the injury absence of Patricia Gleeson.

We play Caltra-Cuans away in the first round of the 2015 Championship next Saturday 4th July, with throw in at 7.00 pm.

Our under 14 team played in the new format Regional Féile last Saturday in Longford. After a disappointing opening match was lost to Swinford-Killester by 8 points, the girls restored their pride with a dramatic, hard fought win against Moate in their second game.  The final score in this game was 1-4 to 1-2.  Their third game was another battling win, 2-6 to 1-4 over Parkes-Keelogue.  Well done to all the girls and the team management involved.
