The gallant Junior B team fell to a fitter Kilcormac/Killoughey team in a very wet Edenderry on Saturday last.  The match was moved to Oaklands Pitch at the last minute as heavy showers all of Saturday afternoon had soaked the main pitch.

The players made their way to Oaklands and they didn't escape the heavy showers there either and certainly some players seemed to question their sanity as surely there was better things to be doing on a wet and miserable Saturday evening - sitting in front of a warm fire being one (preferably Eugene Byrnes coal fire)

However, following an early injury to Sergio Camara the Reds got into the game but struggled to get an penetration up front.  THe defence was heroic and only the God knows how KK didn't score a sack of goals but some brave defending by Adrian Bryan and the width of the crossbar kept them at bay.

With many regulars unavailable due to family commitments associated with the First Communion the Reds fielded some novel players - a father son combination in Shane & Calem Connell, they linked well all day and made up the midfield partnership for the second half.

Two sets of brothers - Michael & Adrian Bryan (with cousin Shane Hayes in goals).  Michael was carried shoulder high off the pitch as he scored the only point (from play) for Edenderry.  Although all the hard graft was completed by Colm Cummins before he cooly slipped it to Michael to finish off.

The other set of brothers were a revelation - Ciaran & David Reynolds worked tirelessly in defense all evening and showed their brotherly love by passing the ball to each other at every opportunity.

Karl McInerney, Michael Ennis and Adrian Farrell battle hard up front but the wet ball proved difficult to handle.  It proved even more difficult to handle for one Emelyn Donoughe who replaced the injured Sergio Camara and was intent of playing soccer at every opportunity.  Glen Dolan, a veteran of great teams in the past freely admitted he needs more games to get to the pitch of it and the same could be said for the Club Chairman Colm Cummins who played the entire second half with a severed right hamstring!

The real hero of the day was Joe Abbott - the only man on the line battling the wind and rain - at least the players (some of them) were running around to stay warm.

Next up is Kinnitty away - rumours abound about an overnight stay for game considering the distance to travel!
