There were scenes of jubilation at Athenry on Sunday as Annaghdown under 14 hurlers won the County Under 14 Feile Toddie Byrne Shield title for the second time in three years when they defeated Portumna on a score line of 10-3 to 3-4. Under- 16 hurlers play Kinvara in the championship this Thursday at 6.30 pm in Kinvara while their final group game is at home to Sylane on Thursday week also throwing in at 6.30.
Annaghdown made the short trip to Caherlistrane on Friday evening and came away with both points in the Div 1 ‘A’ football league, it was a game that both sides were guilty of poor finishing but a goal early in the second half swung the pedestal towards the men in ‘Maroon and White’. The game also became a shooting battle between Frankie Burke and Eric Monahan as the shot seven points each. Annaghdown who lost their opening game against St James, upped their performance and will be happy with the victory as they were short a number of regulars. Final score Annaghdown 1-10 Caherlistrane 0-11, our scorers: F Burke 0-7, C Duggan 1-0, B Dooley 0-1, E Mullarkey 0-1, G Raftery 0-1. We beat Mountbellew-Moylough in the Div 5 North league by 1-13 to 3-3.
There is a John Dunne Cup game scheduled for Thursday evening (23rd) at 7:30pm in Cregg against Milltown.
This weekend it’s the football Feile na nÓg with Annaghdown based in Claregalway starting at 11.00 am with a game against Claregalway, Killannin at 1.00 and Oranmore Maree at 2.00 with the group winners in the semi-final to be played in Moycullen at 6.00.
The Under 16 footballers are scheduled to play a league game against Barna on Tuesday evening (21st) in Cregg at 7 pm.
