Annaghdown lost to St James in the opening round of the Div 1football league in Cregg on Saturday evening, and despite playing with the breeze in the opening half we trailed by two points at the break 0-4 to 0-6 and we could only shot two points in the second half. Annaghdown leveled the game at six points each but the hosts failed to score for the remaining twenty minutes of the half as the visitors added seven points to their opening half total. Our next game is against Caherlistrane this Friday in Caherlistrane.
In the Minor football league we lost to Mountbellew-Moylough by 3-10 to 3-4, we trailed at the break by 0-1 to 1-5, and we play Monivea-Abbey in round 3 away this Wednesday.
Annaghdown beat Headford in the Div 5 league in Cregg on Sunday evening by 3-10 to 1-7, with the scores level at the break 1-6 each, the hosts took full advantage of the breeze in the second half to win by nine points. Martin Scully had the ball in the Headford net after only two minutes of the game and points from Ger Raftery 0-2 and Dara Melia gave us a 1-3 to 0-2 lead midway through the half, but the visitors put in a strong last quarter scoring 1-3 to 0-2 for Annaghdown with Scully scoring both our points to leave the game level at the break.
Annaghdown minor hurlers recorded a 1-11 to 0-12 victory over Ahascragh-Fohenagh in their opening championship game on Saturday last in Cregg. Annaghdown’s Donie Killilea scored the only goal of the game in the opening minute and this score helped Annaghdown into a 1-4 to 0-6 lead at half time. Annaghdown had point scorers in the first half in Luke Heneghan (2), Conor Scully and Patrick Needham. Little separated the sides in the second half and with only a couple of minutes remaining the aides were level at 1-9 to 0-9. However, Annaghdown scored two late points through Pierce Glynn and Donie Killilea as they secured the victory. Their next game in the championship is away to St.Thomas’s.
Annaghdown under -16 hurlers were defeated by Cappataggle in Cregg last Thursday. This was a very tight game with Cappataggle recording a 1-16 to 2-11 victory. Annaghdown who led by 1-5 to 0-6 at half time, had goal scorers in Damien Curry and Cian O’Toole, with Diarmuid Kilcommins, Damien Curry, Ciaran Potter, Joey Maguire and Diarmuid Conway their point scorers. Their next game is away to Kinvara on Thursday 23rd April at 6.30pm.
Annaghdown under-14 hurlers are in Feile action this weekend. They play Skehana in Skehana on Friday evening at 6.30 before travelling to Inverin on Saturdaymorning where they have matches against Ballindereen (11am), Micheal Breathnachs (1.10pm) and Mountbellew- Moylough (2.30pm). Our under-14 hurlers defeated Portumna in the championship on Monday evening by 6-10 to 2-2.
