Congratulations to our junior hurling team that won the Connacht Club championship on Saturday when defeating Calry/St.Joseph’s by 2-11 to 0-6 at the Connacht GAA Centre.
Annaghdown lead by 0-5 to 0-3 at half time with Jonathan Comer scoring three frees while Cathal Gaffney scored two excellent efforts from play. Annaghdown were wind aided in the second half and they got off to the perfect start with Matthias Coleman pointing prior to Damien Comer scoring a goal that saw Annaghdown into a 1-6 to 0-3 lead. A second Damien Comer goal gave Annaghdown a commanding lead, a lead they would never relinquish. Annaghdown other second half points came through Jonathan Comer (2 frees), Damien Comer, Adrian Murphy and Eoghan Pierce.
After the game a delighted Shane Collier accepted the cup from Frank Burke, President of the Connacht Council.
The team would like to thank their many supporters who travelled in large numbers to Saturday’s game while also thanking Annaghdown GAA Club for providing a meal after the game. Thanks to Martina Coen and Collette Walsh who assisted in the serving of the meal in Hennelly’s on Saturday evening.
The team have now qualified for the All-Ireland semi-final which takes place next January. However, they have a big game this coming Saturday when they play Micheal Breathnachs in the junior “A” championship semi-final in Clarinbridge at 2.00.
