Annaghdown GAA Notes

We drew with Tuam Stars in the opening game of the senior league (Div 1) on Sunday at a wind swept Tuam Stars ground, it was a difficult day for football but both sides tried their best to overcome the elements as the rain and at times gale force winds swept towards the clubhouse end.
The ‘Stars’ lead at the break by a single point 0-6 to 1-2 with Wesley Fallon scoring our first half goal following a Damien Comer pass and Niall Kinneen added a brace of points against the elements. In the second half Tuam extended their advantage after scoring the opening two points to lead by three, points followed from Kinneen and Comer to close the gap to a single score 0-8 to 1-4 and with ten minutes to go it was anybody’s game, both sides were off target with a number of chances but the hosts found the range and went two up only for Enda Mullarkey to reduce their lead to a single point, but Tuam hit back and raised another white flag to once again go two up and it looked as if they were going to start the league with a win, but the visitors had other ideas and when Cathal Coen punched over a point after a good run, Comer gained possession and was fouled as he headed towards goal, Kinneen pointed the resulting free to give Annaghdown a share of the spoils on a final score of 1-7 to 0-10. In the second round we play Cortoon Shamrocks in Cregg on Saturday evening next. Our team was: J Healy, J Creaven, A Pender, J Kerin, E Kerin, D Meehan, J Farragher, M Devaney, C Duggan, A Burke, D Comer, E Mullarkey, C Coen, W Fallon, N Kinneen. Subs used: I Burke and C Moloney.
