We defeated Tuam Stars in the opening round of the junior football championship played in Tuam Stadium on Sunday, Annaghdown held a one point lead at the break 0-5 to 0-4 with scores from Keith Greaney 0-2 and one each from Ciaran Kerin, Justin Flaherty and Damien Burke . In the second half Keith Greaney scored 1-3, Ciaran Kerin 1-1 with Justin Flaherty and Eoin Curry adding the other points, final score Annaghdown 2-11 Tuam Stars 0-9; we now play Milltown in the next round. The team was: J Healy, J Curry, S Moylan, J Comer, T Burke, M Naughton, M Duggan, I Burke, J Flaherty, K Moylan, D Melia, K Greaney, D Burke, M Scully, C Kerin. Sub E Curry, B Creaven.
Annaghdown under- 16 hurlers were narrowly beaten by Cappataggle in their county semi final last Thursday with the East Galway side winning out by 2-9 to 1-11 in a game played at Ballindereen. Annaghdown lead by 1-3 to 0-4 at half time and by 1-11 to 2-6 with only minutes remaining .Cappataagle though scored the final three points of the game and will now play Oranmore/Maree in the final. Annaghdown's goal was scored by Ciaran Potter while their first half points came through Diarmuid Kilcommins, Damien Curry and the aforementioned Ciaran Potter. Cappataggle scored two early second half goals and they lead by four points as the game entered it's final quarter. Annaghdown responded with six unanswered points with Diarmuid Kilcommins pointing on four occasions (he scored six points in total in the second half) while Ciaran Potter and Damien Curry also added further scores as Annaghdown lead by 1-11 to 2-6. Annaghdown couldn't hold on for victory, though, with Cappataggle finishing strongly. Annaghdown were left incensed with a number of decisions that went against them with Cappataggle awarded two second half points by the referee despite the Cappataggle umpire indicating that these efforts were wide!
