Annaghdown intermediate hurlers were unfortunate to be beaten by Meelick-Eyrecourt on Sunday evening in the third round of the championship. The sides were level at 0-15 to 1-12 with four minutes remaining. However, Meelick-Eyrecourt added 1-3 late on to win out by 2-15 to 0-15 on a day when missed chances and ill-discipline cost Annaghdown dearly. Meelick-Eyrecourt lead by 1-7 to 0-3 after seventeen minutes but Annaghdown excelled in the latter stages of the opening half and eight points in a row saw Annaghdown lead by 0-11 to 1-7 at half time. Annaghdown's first half scores came through Jonathan Comer who scored four frees as well as a sixty five, Adrian Murphy, who scored three excellent scores from play while Niall Kinneen landed two good points with Fergal O'Doherty also on target.

By the end of the third quarter the sides were level at 0-13 to 1-10. Adrian Murphy added another point to his tally as did Jonathan Comer. Two further Comer scores ensured that the teams remained deadlocked as they game entered its final minutes but Meelick-Eyrecourt finished imprecisely

Annaghdown: Darren Groarke, Andrew Goulding, Martin O'Neill, Ronan Newell, Alan Newell, Cathal Gaffney, Eoghan Pierce, Tomas Burke, Enda Mullarkey, Adrian Murphy (0-4), Niall O'Keeffe, Fergal O'Doherty (0-1), Jonathan Comer (0-8, 0-6 frees, 0-2 sixty fives), Niall Kinneen (0-2), Matthias Coleman. Subs: Shane Collier, Aaron Hardiman, John King.

Congratulations to Adrian Murphy who was a member of the Roscommon team that won the Nicky Rackard Cup on Saturday when beating Armagh by 2-12 to 1-14 at Croke Park. Adrian lined out at corner forward and scored 1-1 in his team’s wonderful victory.
