U-12's

In perfect conditions last Sunday evening we hosted the James O' Toole and the Howleys Eurospar under 12 cup finals. Well done to our under 12 team who captured the inaugural Howleys Eurospar cup when they defeated Cortoon Shamrocks 1-09 to 3-01 in the final. Caherlistrane won the James O'Toole cup when they beat near neighbours Headford 4-07 to 2-07. The club would like to thank all who helped out to make both leagues a great success. In particular Jim Carr and David Cronin, team mentors Sean Doorey, Sean Jordan & Sean Connolly, all clubs who participated, Larry Lohan & Galway Bord Na Og, referees and our sponsors Howleys Eurospar.

U-14's

Our under 14 team completed their league campaign with an away victory over Corofin last Friday. We started brightly and led 2-01 to 1-00 after 10 minutes. We scored another goal to increase our lead before Corofin score 1-01 to get back in the game. We finished the half strongly and led 5-03 to 2-01. We were the better side throughout the second half and won comfortably in the end, 8-14 to 3-03. They are now through to the league final. We will inform all members when and where the final will be played.

Our under 14's got back to winning ways when they defeated Tuam Stars at home last Sunday afternoon. Playing into the town goal, and with the wind at their backs, our boys started brightly and were 2-02 to no score ahead after 10 minutes. Sean Glynn and Dylan Brady getting our goals. Tuam responded with a point before we increased our lead with 3 more points. Both sides were guilty of missing good scoring chances and Tuam closed out the half by scoring the last point. Half time score Dunmore 2-05 Tuam 0-02. We started the second half brightly but didn't trouble the umpires and when Tuam kicked 3 points they were back in the game. A well taken goal by Jack Neenan cancelled out the 3 points and by the mid way point of the second half there was still 9 points between the sides. A some what fortuitous Tuam goal was quickly cancelled out by our fourth goal when Thomas Cronin got on the end of a flowing Dunmore move to palm to the net. They are now playing Corofin on Friday evening. Details to be confirmed.

Registration is still outstanding from a number of players. Please forward to Teddy Nestor or David Glynn ASAP.

Under 10’s Win Cortoon Blitz. We had a great result last Saturday when we retained the Clarke cup at Cortoon Shamrocks. All the team played their part in this great victory. We played Milltown first and we got a good win and with the confidence high we then faced the Tuam stars team and we overcame them in a hard fought victory with some good points by several of our team. this brought us to the final against the hosts, Cortoon Shamrocks who proved to be very tenacious. The lead changed a few times but a goal towards the end of the game and some nervous moments followed while we all waited for the final whistle. There were great displays of football by all members of the squad and the victory was well deserved. Thanks to all the parents and friends who turned out in great numbers to support the team and thanks also to the Cortoon Shamrocks for their hospitality and a great day out

Boys Under 10's host blitz.

On Saturday 10th October 2009 we had a very successful blitz. Eight clubs competed in some thrilling matches watched on by a large crowd of parents and friends. The competition was won by Annaghdown club who bet Tuam Stars in the final. In the 3rd and 4th place playoff Dunmore MacHales overcame Milltown. Headford, Cortoon Shamrocks, Caherlistrane and Kilkerrin-Clonberne were the other clubs who competed in the blitz where some outstanding football was played by all clubs. On the Dunmore side there was some good team play from everyone on the squad in all positions on the field and every player played a part in putting an end to our losing streak of recent weeks. Many thanks are due to all the parents who brought sandwiches and snacks and who helped to provide marvelous hospitality to the visiting clubs, it was really appreciated.

Thanks also to Barry Ward and Ciaran Redington who refereed the games and to anybody who helped make the day the sucess that it was. We would like to thank St. Jarlath’s Credit Union for their kind sponsorship of this hugely successful day.

Boys, U-12  win Festival Blitz. On Saturday last we hosted an U-12 Blitz as part of Dunmore Festival ’09. The event sponsored by Brian & Dr. Frances Keating was a huge success. We had three visiting local club teams, Kilkerrin/Clonberne, Cortoon and Glenamaddy, we take this opportunity to thank them for travelling and accepting our invitation. Each team played four games, with Dunmore and Glenamaddy playing off in the final. Cortoon and Kilkerrin/Clonberne played for 3rd and 4th spot.

Dunmore were beaten in their first match by Glenamaddy but overcame Cortoon and Kilkerrin/Clonberne in their next two outings. With good performances from our backs James Gildea, Conor Burns, John O’toole and Luke Corcoran and busy forward play from Niall Rattigan, Sean Kelly, Paul Caffery and Padraig Costello  all saw Dunmore reach the final against a strong Glenamaddy team.

It was a close encounter between these two teams. In goal  Conor Walsh brought off some fine saves and was accurate with his kick outs. In the backs, Evan Canny, Micháel Burke, Daniel Malloney, Cillian Boland were tight in their marking and cleared their lines with strength. Mickey Dilger, Niall Noone and Liam Ryder worked tirelessly in the middle of the field, supplying quality ball to our forwards.  While up front we relied on some magnificent scores from Ethan Coen, Rian Glennon, Owen Hussey. Dunmore won out the day  with a memorable victory . Our  captain, Liam Ryder accepted the cup on behalf of our victorious U-12s. Congrats to all coaching staff involved with this team and we wish them luck in the County U-12 league which commences on 16th August.

Under 16 A League Semi-Final: We played Barna in this match last Tuesday in Dunmore. This was one of the best under age games seen in many years. It was top class football from the beginning to the end of normal time and both teams were level. The game went to extra time and at the end of the game they were separated by a point. Sadly, Dunmore had a few chances in the final minutes to draw or even win but we could not get the vital scores. The opposition were taller than the Dunmore team and this was an important factor in their success. But the MacHales players can hold their heads high as they served up a magnificent game of football. Best for Dunmore: Shane Gleeson, James Comer, Patrick Glynn, James Maloney. We would like to thank Basil Glynn who sponsored a set of togs and socks for the team on the occasion.

Boys U-12s On Monday evening last 12th May we had a challenge match against Michael Glavey’s  in Dunmore. There was a very good turnout of 26 players. A very enjoyable game with some entertaining football played by both teams. The lead changed hands during the first half, which ended with Dunmore trailing by two points at the interval. A strong start to the second half saw Dunmore take control and they eventually went on to win the game by six points. This was our first challenge game of the year with a long road ahead, as the U-12 league does not commence until August of this year.

         Dunmore MacHales

Youth Development Draw

Dunmore MacHales have been playing an important role in the development of the children and youth of this community for many decades.

The future of our club is Our Young Players and in order to ensure that we can continue to grow we need to provide facilities of the highest standard for our youngsters from 6 to 16.  In today’s world with so many other distractions available, it is of paramount importance that we look after our youth and keep them involved in the healthy activity of participating in Gaelic Games.

This year a juvenile committee has been set up to help develop our youth structure within the club. We recognize that the youth of the parish give hope to the future of Dunmore MacHales and it is therefore essential that we focus on these age-groups to ensure we have a club competing at the highest standard in the coming years.

For this reason we propose holding a fundraiser draw which will financially secure the underage structure of this club for the year ahead.  The total money raised will go to-wards the youth of the club. Support at home by playing on www.locallotto.ie.

Dunmore MacHales U-10s win Cortoon Blitz 2008

Congratulations to our U-10’s who won the Clarke Cup at the Cortoon blitz on Saturday last 27th September. As a result of some decisive defence work from Conor Burns, Enna Glynn, Raymond Kilgarriff, James Gildea, Eoin Mullins, Padraig Joyner, John O’Toole , Cillian Boland, Micheal Burke and Luke Corcoran Dunmore won all their games in the group stages, with wins over Tuam, Cortoon, Kilkerrin/Clonberne  and Milltown. We witnessed trojan work also around the middle of the field from Mickey Dilger, Adam Canny, Padraig Costello, Paul Caffrey and Rian Glennon. This gave  Dunmore a stronghold which resulted in quality ball into the forward line all day. Our forward lines consisted of  Diarmud Mannion , John Glynn, Eamonn Cloonan, Sean Kelly, Conor Finn and Thomas Gildea, who  worked hard and took their scores with conviction.

Dunmore went on to play Tuam in the final. Both teams had met previously on a number of occasions in the past few weeks with nothing between either team. Dunmore were victorious on this occasion and when captain Raymond Kilgarriff accepted the Clarke Cup on behalf of all his team mates the lads  went wild in their celebration. I wish to thank all the parents for their continued co-operation and support.
