Carlow Credit Union S.F.L. Division 3
Asca 1-11 Tinryland 1-5
Despite the efforts of storm Dave who howled in the background parish neighbours Asca and Tinryland got through proceedings with little difficulty at Rathcrogue on Saturday evening. In a closely contested first half the Asca first squad and Tinryland’s 2nd 15 finished all square when Tullow referee Padraig Murphy sounded the half time whistle. After a scoreless opening 10 minutes Sean Murphy for Tinryland and Benjamin Deacon for the town team opened the scoring with points in the 10th and 11th minutes. By the 20th minute the men in sky blue led by the minimum after further points from Mark O’Brien and Conor O’Brien before Paddy Walshe for Tinryland rattled the net at the Wexford end to give the home side a two-point advantage entering the end of the first half. Asca rallied just before the break with a pair of points from James Ingram to leave matters all square when referee Murphy blew for the break. Half time score Asca 0-5 Tinryland 1-2.
When play resumed storm Dave was still making an impact but it was the Asca men that were fastest out of the blocks scoring 3 unanswered points via Mark O’Brien, (2) and Andrew Vint.
Paddy Walsh replied with another beauty of a point for the home team before the Asca men put daylight between the teams with a Conor O’Brien goal and 2 further points. With 8 points separating the teams entering the closing stages both teams lost a player when the referee flashed red cards and the game ended with 2 further Conor O’Brien points for Asca and 2 for Tinryland via the energetic Paddy Walshe and Eoghan Hosey. Asca will be back in action away to Mount Leinster Rangers on Saturday next 11th April while Tinryland will entertain Eire Og on the same date.
