Bennekerry/Tinryland Ladies advance in SFC

TellLab Carlow Ladies SFC

                  Bennekerry/Tinryland 5-17                                               St Brigids 0-4

Bennekerry/Tinryland the current All Ireland and Leinster Intermediate champions edged closer to another Carlow senior final when they easily overcame the expected strong challenge from St. Brigids in Rathcrogue on Friday last. When these teams met in the league 6 weeks ago St Brigids beat BT minus their Co. players by 2 points. On Friday the current title holders had all their Co players back and they dominated from the start. The early stages saw Katie Bullen score the first of her two goals with Elaine Ware and Aoibhin Webb adding points before St Brigids opened their account with a Tara Lyons point quickly followed by another from Sara Doyle from a free. That was as good as it got however for the ladies from Hacketstown as BT scored a further 2-5 without reply with Katie Bullen notching her 2nd goal in the 20th minute and Cliodhna Ni She getting BT’s 3rd 6 minutes before half time.

When referee Marion Hayden re-started proceedings St Brigids opened the 2nd half scoring with a point from Aibha Kiernan but that was as good as it got for the Wicklow border side who could only muster one further point from Sarah Doyle in the dying seconds.

Bennekerry/Tinryland meanwhile totally dominated possession in that 2nd half adding further goals via Sinead Hayden who cheekily intercepted a pass from St Brigids goalkeeper Rachael Hickey with the same player deflecting a long delivery from Elaine Ware past Hickey which finished this game as a contest. Outstanding for the winners were Elaine Ware, Aoibhin Webb, Ruth Bermingham, Fiona O’Sullivan, Sinead Hayden and Cliodhna Ni She.

St Brigids best players were Anna Doyle, Pamela Dowling, Aibha Kiernan, and Aoibhe Johnson.

On this performance Bennekerry/Tinryland are the team to beat in Carlow once again but no doubt former champions Old Leighlin who were in attendance at Rathcrogue will have something to say about that statement.
