Askea defeat Tinryland by 5 points in JFC C

Talbot Hotel J.F.C.

                       Askea 1-19                                                            Tinryland 4-5

Askea 2nd fifteen and Tinryland’s 3rd squad served up a lively Junior C championship opener at sun kissed Presentation College on Tuesday. The winners opened the scoring after only 30 seconds with a point from Dylan Reams and they doubled their account 2 minutes later with another point from corner back Andre Luiz Carvalho. The home side were then rocked back to reality when Matthew Brennan crashed the ball to the Askea net following good play by Jack Murphy. The teams were all square by the 6th minute when Askea mid-fielder Jimmy Phelan slotted over a point but Tinryland were back in front one minute later following a Keelan Quigley conversion from a free won by the lively Aongus O’Shea. This score seemed to spur the Askea men to up their game and they went on to score a goal and eleven points without reply following excellent point scoring from John Dwyer, Conor Byrne, Jimmy Phelan, and Stephen Bayley with Conor Byrne closing the first half scoring with a 2 pointer and former Tinryland player Dwyer scoring his sides only goal in the 11th minute. A feature of that first half was excellent goalkeeping by Tinryland custodian Evan Doyle and Asca net minder Alex Clifford.

The second half began with Askea adding to their tally with points from Jimmy Phelan and John Dwyer with the home side bringing on subs Padraig Cantwell and Miley O’Reilly. Tinryland made changes also bringing Evan Doyle out of goal and introducing another veteran player in Shane O’Neill together with Harry Fennelly and Sean Riordan.

These changes had a positive effect on the Tinryland performance with the men from Rathcrogue scoring a further 3 goals and 4 points in a 20-minute spell to keep the home side on their toes before referee David Hickey sounded the long whistle.

Outstanding for the winners were midfielders Boni Milinganyo and Jimmy Phelan, defenders Tebogo Sebala and Andre Carvalho together with lethal forwards John Dwyer, Conor Byrne and Dylan Reams. Tinryland had outstanding players in Jack Murphy, Matthew Brennan, Jamie Furlong, Keelan Quigley, Jason Noctor, and sub-Shane O’Neill.

Askea will be back in action on Tuesday 26th August away to St Patricks in Bro Leo Park while Tinryland will have a bye in round 2 and will next be in action at home to St. Patricks on Tuesday 2nd September.
